I've been playing on the TastySpleen rail server a bit lately and I got an urge, the other day, to crank out a map for it. I think it was the 5th time that day that I'd played on Jester's "albino black sheep" and out of the void came a voice that said "Make a goddam insta-gib map you slacker!" I think it was god, but I dunno. anyways... you can download the map here: dervish.tastyspleen.net/files/wdrail01.zipand here's some screenies: Check it out, and tell me what you guys think of my first rail map ever...

I love the architecture design here, it's definitely a creative approach. The only thing that bothers me is that the textures seem a bit bland. It's pretty much just solid gray everywhere with the occasional blue and red on certain things. Maybe try spicing that up a bit, and I think this could really be a fantastic map. As of right now, I'd give it 7/10. All-in-all, nicely done.

One other thing: is this meant to be played with a specific mod? There doesn't seem to be any ammo/weapons in the map.

uh yeah. I made it for insta-gib/rails only DM. I use the tourney 'mod' usually with infinite ammo and no falling damage... Everyone starts with a railgun and nades. some servers even kick the rail damage up a bit but I've never been able to figure out why...

clean lil map, but the jump pad trajectory might need some tweaking. you are going up unnecessary high - bouncing even off the skybox - and then rather crashing than landing, losing a lot of health. if you are already low on health it will kill you for sure. if you leave it this way, put at least a sign beside it which says "use at own risk." ;D

I've never liked space maps that much, but I can't tell about this one untill I try it with players. Good job on the architecture though

I noticed the pads tend to take off about 40+ damage on a bad landing... I had to move the skybox up a bit cause when I was testing it, you'd smack into it going super fast and it would scrub off almost all of your horizontal speed. I made the gravity about 7/8 of the normal setting too, so I'm not sure if this negatively effected the physics.. (It could have, since you shoot upward quite a bit more with it reduced...) I'm gonna make a newer release, probably today, with railguns laying around (the 'no items' spawnflag should wipe them out in insta-gib) I'll see what I can do to the jump pads so they aren't quite so lethal... thx for the input guys!

lol. cool. I think the new version is almost done with arghrad though... I'll update the link and file in a few... edit: It's fixed. Anyone who picked this up yesterday might wanna download it again and overwrite. Sry for any inconvenience
