I hear it is bad to have a mass collection of "clear textures"... as in SEE-THRU. / Is this true?
I hear that windows, glass, semi-transparent textures cause LAG
any help?

I think it causes high r_speeds, but I have used them in the past. I guess if it's used in a lot of places it would cause some trouble, but a window here and there shouldn't hurt anything.

ok, so by reading that info... It does not say black or white that rSpeeds are increased.... but! when read a 2nd time.... hehehe I see "Detail added this way does not produce high r_speeds. " So therefor my question answered.
I thank you my friend -Flash

About the r_speeds, transparencies do not raise them per se, they do however require more from the engine when it draws them. I do not know any of the specific technical jargon or specific technical reasons (I'll quote Jerry Seinfeld here "It just does")... but the end result is that you should use them in reasonable quantity/quantities.

My new map (in creation) has quite a bit of 'clear' textures. The 'R' speeds are crazy right now!! (over 3,000 in some places!) I should be able to get this down considerably, once the map gets into the final 'tuning' stages. If I have to, I can eliminate nearly all of them, but they just look perfect where they are.
...well...we'll see. -KF
