I need some very trustworthy beta testers to take a look at RQMDM5 - Complex.
As the name implies, RQMDM5 is a complex map and huge (BSP on a P4 3.0G takes 35 secs!). Currently BSP weighs in at just over 5MB!
Basically I'm seeking input from other players with regard to performance of the map on their machines. Players using Software mode need not inquire. Trust me, it won't work on your set-up. :^)
Private message me for link.

I'll be glad to test it, but, 5mb is a bit much with a isdn line...well...not that much...like 20 min or so.

Many thanks to those individuals volunteering their time to alpha test (downgrade from beta) one of my maps. I have just recently made some modifications and need to recompile.
I will pm the link to all of you later this evening.

<edited, sent in pm only>
You might be missing the sky texture and Quake2 will report one (at least I hope it is only one) missing texture. The sky and texture errors have been repaired already, but that .bsp isn't ready for distribution.
Please remember to examine r_speeds and performance on your own machine. If possible, create an .aas and run around with some gladiator bots to test the strain on the system. I know the r_speeds are high in some spots (over 1,100) but I'm not too worried given the strength of most players' machines these days.
Look forward to hearing from you. Please post comments in the forum under my beta-tester announcement.
Thanks.

First comments... You are missing the texture - textures/e1u1/colorbl_4.wal. This missing texture is located right above the super shot gun. The r_speeds get up to 1315 in some areas outside, but only in corners. I don't see that being a problem. The rest of the map is fine. I would lower the light value of the sky. This would make the outside a little darker and would be more fitting for a night time sky. More comments to come...

How do you say it - shave my legs and call me grandma! that is a one great piece of work. good detailing.haven't noticed any building errors, everything seems to be perfect. i have no time to test the performance right now (though i haven't experienced any slowdowns or so running around), but next week i'm gonna devote this baby some time, that she deserves. once again - Great Job (lots of work )

Yes, I agree with Stah. This is one huge beautiful piece of Q2 mapping! I loaded it up with 12 bots and didn't notice any slowdown, but it may be different on a server. The layout is great. Weapon and ammo are spaced out very nicely. Lot's of areas to explore. I really like the laser bridge and laser floor button. Negatives: I didn't notice any sounds, I'm sure you were going to add them and I would sink the spawnpads, but that's just me. Overall, this is a great map! Please announce it here for the final release and thanks for allowing us to test it out! Le Ray

Many thanks one and all for your comments. Please continue to share as you revisit (that is, if you do revisit) the map.
This map is FAR from complete. There are no sounds, I haven't decided on a env map (that's why the lighting doesn't fit the sky), and I'm still tinkering with actual construction so as to reduce the number of numportals and increase the speed of the map.
I was glad to hear the map worked with up to 12 bots. As you probably suspected, this map is equivalent in size to the Id Software "64" maps from a few years back.
I will probably post another beta test toward the end of this weekend. Thanks again one and all!
