Hi LeRay!
Thanks for your interest! This morning I thought the level is almost finished. But I met Maric and Panzer and they gave me tons of advices. And I think I will try them, because they (especially Maric, one of the greattest mappers) said the level itself is great, with a unique mood, and Maric already asked if he can put the level in the Awakening2 rotation!? Holy god, what a honour!
So I didn't forget You and this forum, just more unforeseen works are in progress. As soon as there will be some major changes, and of course as the release will come, You will be one of the firsts who will know about it!
good night Kornel

Hi guys. Unholy arrived to the final test phase. There was a few layout changes, the backpack removed from its place, so now the bots don't stuck in that area, they ply the map very well. THe filesize is 6 mb, sorry. It's because the level now has a lot of custom sounds. But there will be a soundless version also availabe, to think of people with lower bandwidth. Check it please! zorius.dionussos.com/files/unholy_final_beta.zip

Of course I'm glad to have You test my map! You help me soo much, I swear. I also hope that I will make more q2 maps in the future, because I feel that I start to get to kinow mapping. And again, I won't forget You, and this forum and I (as every day) will come back frequently here. I just spend a bit more time now at backshotters, but You also important to me. And the map will be posted here of course, in the first hour of the release ;-) ...and for the great charity to house me here, pick these very new, exclusive shots from the latest hot sketch: zorius.dionussos.com/images/temp/lerayhot01.jpgzorius.dionussos.com/images/temp/lerayhot02.jpgI know, that the level's mood changed a bit, but I decided this way. Ití's not so oppressive this way, but at least not washed out. chya

I would prefer non-chess style! Looks more realistic and so.

Thanks cc Many people say the same. Chess style is great, but frivolous. Like American McGee's Alice. So I'll use that.

Took a look...
I can't comment accurately on the look because there are quite a few missing textures. Everything else looks OK still.
Sounds: They're major coolness...in the few places you can hear them. There's too many silent areas. A few more ambient sounds through the rest of the map (like they're coming from the lights or something like that) would help a lot.
There's one part you took out I thought was kinda cool. The wall out past the pillars in the one corner that had the tower thing. But it'll run a bit better without it because it's less r_speeds when you're looking that way.

I'll change almost all the textures ;-)
Maybe I'll add a few more sounds; I thought they are too much, but it exactly doesn't matter that 6 or 7 mb is the file ;-)
Maybe I'll put back that place, You mentioned, because the r_speed doesn't changed since I removed the outside areas, the problem is somewhere else. But You know, I don't even bother.
Check those pics befor if You haven't do it yet.
coming bye

Do you mean the floor textures? The second one is a lot better. The checkerboard one is OK in itself but too "modern" looking in that setting. If yotu want to try a pattern with contrasting colors maybe a more complex pattern like the second texture with minor or moderate changes in contrast would look good. Maybe one texture for the lower level and another for the upper level. For the sounds, if you're wanting to cut down on the filesize you can probably get away with 8-bit or 11.025KHz for most of the sounds. 8-bit for sounds without quiet parts, 11.025KHz for sounds without any high-frequency component. Try these: breath_loop.wav - as is burn.wav - as is chant_01.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit creep_01.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit creep_02.wav - 22.05KHz 8-bit evil_sight.wav - probably best as is moan_01.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit scream.wav - 22.05KHz 8-bit wind_01.wav - 22.05KHz 8-bit wind_02.wav - either 22.05KHz 8-bit or 11.025KHz 16-bit wind_03.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit wind_05.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit wind_08.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit or even 11.025KHz 8-bit wind_09.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit windroom.wav - 11.025KHz 16-bit Or you could make a no-sounds version if you wanted to. Although it's cooler with them

If yotu want to try a pattern with contrasting colors maybe a more complex pattern like the second texture with minor or moderate changes in contrast would look good. Maybe one texture for the lower level and another for the upper level. Yes, You are absolutely right, and I thought it totally this way. It's a crazy cool texture, but not for this map. The other one fits it perfectly. And of course, there will be one texture on the main floor and another on the second. Just one texture is which is brain-teaser for me, the second levels ceil. I need some texture without any concrete pattern, just a plain one. I will show, which did I choose (this is the only one, where I feel that "the story doesn't hold together". For the sounds, if you're wanting to cut down on the filesize you can probably get away with 8-bit or 11.025KHz for most of the sounds. 8-bit for sounds without quiet parts, 11.025KHz for sounds without any high-frequency component. Although it's cooler with them So I can choose even 8 bit and 11 khz? I thought the q2 engine handles just 16khz and 16 bit. Then I'll try what You adviced. the screams which can be heard randomly are not necessary to be perfect quality. But I think the no-sound version is absolutely needed. Thanks, version with new textures, and with (again) new lighting style coming! thanks for your care bye

Ahh, Leray.
You have to be really-really exited about my map!!! And it's great to see. Because there isn't day without asking me of this. When will be my map released? "When it's done..."tm ;-) No, seriously. I've changed almost all the textures, but it doesn't mean anything serious, it's just a replecement. But a few lighting correction to the new textures needed. As I feel, before September it will be finished. Becasue gameplay testing for example done, the main strucure too, textures ok, just a bit more tweaking.
Thanks for your patience and care guys!!! I can truly say, that if You liked the betas, when You will load up the final version in the console, You will catch flies with your mouths ;-)
With honestly respect:
Kornel
