I thought you guys might want to see what I've been working on lately. This is my second attempt at a deathmatch map, and will eventually be used as a basis for a CTF map I'm making for Vortex (vrxctf1). This is the first room, and after careful discussion with a friend, I have decided to have this map entirely lighted by sunlight. Enjoy the first shot of many. Yun

Looks nice. Clean job. Maybe still a bit symmetric ? But only part of a bigger map I guess. There is one detail which make me snicker a bit .... can you tell it ? Yes, it is the lava containers (!) which are attached to the walkway up there. Considering that the "lava" in iD's games is unrealistic in general, but this .... this is a tad too much, lol. Hmm, an idea would be to insert a colored glass there. Maybe even a possible opportunity to use the "sunlight through colored glass" trick Sven describes on his homepage. www.planetquake.com/sven/insane/q3aish.html( Just an idea )

To be completely honest, I obcessed over your comment for nearly two hours. I tried putting the glass in, but I find it takes away from the temple idea that I've gotten right into.
Everything has an ancient feel to it, but the glass looks way out of place..
That, and the sunlight is way to close and bright for that kind of effect. The shadows also look bad for the framing... It just doesn't work.
Thanks for the comment, but I think the lava is going to stay -- it foreshadows my efforts to provide indoor lighting naturally. (Think Third Reich with the spotlights pointing upwards...
