I was just looking at the Quake 2 map project, which seemed to have gone really well. It certainly produced an excellent result from all the mappers who took part in it. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing something similar, but for the classic Doom 1 or 2 games. This would be 1 singleplayer map, built in sections by seperate mappers, then put together to form one large map. Here's your chance to vote on the idea and weigh in on whether or not you'd like to see this take place, or to even participate in it yourself.

The editor I use is called Doom Builder. It's versatile and very easy to use. If you haven't before, or if anyone else is interested, you can check it out here: www.doombuilder.com/builder_info.php

Doombuilder's the bomb...Love it. Should really download it again and give it a go. I used to make some dark maps back in the day, and the original doom had some many lighting effects that made it so easy...who cared if it looked real or not, it was awesome anyway.

I made Doom maps in the ol' days but I'm very low on time atm and I've got a bunch of other projects so I won't be able to participate myself. I wanted to point out that the idea of creating a Doom mappack or episode together showed up at levelmakers some time ago though. Seems that nothing has been done so far, but you may want to revive that thread over there, dunno.

Thanks for the tip, spirit. I'll take a look at that thread.

I downloaded Doom Builder a while back and played around with it. It just felt weird mapping without using the Z axis with intersecting areas layered over the top of other areas. It was amazing how well curves are translated in the game engine when you think about how old that game is.

Is there a mac version of this builder and perhaps the game, then I'd be up for it one day I will my MacBook, then turn it on fire and extinguish it with my urine. but I can't afford that right now
