The readme says to include the caulk texture to make a face not apper in the map but instead I get the message "cannot find this texture" and the face still shows up, albeit using the red 'texture not found' texture.

Are you sure that you're compiling with kmqbsp.exe instead of the normal qbsp.exe? Check your scripts, or if you're compiling in-editor, you may have to rename it, or write your own batch files.

So caulk can be used in vanilla q2 like in q3?

On thing I just remembered is to make sure that the texture name in the map is common/caulk or system/caulk. Just dumping the included textures without folder structure in the root of your textures folder or in e1m1/ won't cut it.
