I got Q2 to play in Windows 7, I am having trouble with Quake 2 all together, Windows 7 is not allowing me to edit .cfg files within my Q2 folder that is located in: C:/Program Files ( x86 )/Quake2/
It is also not letting Quake2 write files within its own folder, such as save games and config files, is there a way to make Windows 7 to stop doing this, I am unable to change the file atributes of the Q2 folder or any file in it, and I have administrator rights on my system, please help.

Hmm, if Windows 7 is like Vista, you need to turn off UAC (User Account Control) to save files in Program Files.. Not sure how you do it in W7, but in Vista it's pretty easy.. But, the best way would probably be to move your quake2 folder onto C:/ itself.. not in the Program Files folder

Don't directories inherit security settings on Windows 7? I'd assume that if you can write to C:\, you can write to C:\Program Files\.

I will try moving a small folder first, and change atributes, if that works then Ill just move the entire Quake2 folder.

Well, if Windows 7 has the same UAC as Vista, you'll have to press like 2-3 accept buttons to make sure that you want to paste/save something into the Program Files folder.. Same thing with the Windows folder actually, but the the C:\ drive itself lets you paste files into it without UAC asking all those questions.. "Are you sure that you are sure that you want to paste this file into this folder?"... Pretty annoying if you ask me! So that's why I turned it off

That problem is solved, simply reinstall Q2 but NOT in Program Files.
Now, I cant get Q2 evolved to run on my comp, that thing locks up my comp everytime I try to use it, the only thing that works is Q2 max, but that is unable to load saved games.

Maybe you should try EGL or KmQuake ?

Just move it to C:\Quake2 (or even better, a data partition) and update your shortcuts in the start menu and elsewhere. No need to reinstall.
EDIT: Oh, I see that you already did reinstall. Never mind.
Are you sure that the saved games you are trying to load in Q2Max were saved by the same game DLL as you are trying to load them with? Saves are totally DLL-specific.
