I registered here specifically to write this post.
So, the first question - is this mod still alive? Because it's SUPERB! In my humble opinion, StroggDM is the best Quake 2 mod. The idea is simply brilliant.
Unfortunately, as I can see there's not much activity in this section of the forum, so I assume people lost interest in this mod, which is big shame.
Alright so, some things bug me about StroggDM. As it's quite hard to get (ModDB has no download, paril.gaminggalaxy.net is inaccessible, several other links on the net are dead) I think I'm pretty lucky to find 8.0 beta2 (from alteredsoftworks). But still, are there any "official" sources still in existence to download this stuff?
I wanted to play StroggDM in solo cooperative, as there's not much any possibility for me to play it online, and there's apparently no bot for deathmatch, but there are some issues. First off, the AI monsters are ungibbable - they just blow up when they die, like a flyer... which is stupid, annoying, and makes no sense, since player controlled monsters apparently ARE gibbable, so why not AI?
Another thing is that majority of monsters in cooperative seem to CARRY FREAKIN' QUAD DAMAGE O.o They glow blue and deal much more damage - gunners can pulverize you with few shots. All those glowing monsters are also ridiculously fast. These two things make cooperative literally unplayable.
So, any idea how to turn gibbing back on and somehow turn off that massive powerup for monsters?
Hoping someone responds...

Well, I think Paril is the one to answer your questions and he stops by from time to time. He is the creator of the mod, but I don't really know if he is doing any updates on it anymore. You might want to Pm or email him for a faster respons from him. By the way; I think it is an awesome mod too. -W1

I see... well then I'll just wait patiently. I doubt he's still working on the mod, seeing that the last update was around 3 years ago, but I hope he can at least provide some answers. I also came up with few ideas for the stroggdm, but I don't think there's point in sharing them - and the reason is above. I sure look forward to play this stuff with somebody once I get my normal internet connection back; If no one from the net is interested I still have fellow Quake players from the neighborhood

I'm right here guys.
Yes, StroggDM is indeed dead. I stopped working on it at about the same time I started honing my programming skills - when I wanted to return to it, I realized what an idiot I was and just didn't feel like recoding 100% of it.
The blue glow is not quad damage, it was to separate players from monsters. Yes, they are strong, and yes they do run fast; the speed was so spawned monsters could keep up with the owners. Basically, the cooperative mode is just spawned monsters without an owner, so they had the power and attacks of spawned monsters.
If you have any other ideas for mods, don't be afraid to pitch them to me. I'm always looking for fun stuff to do.

Glad to see you still around, and thanks for the answers.
That pretty much concludes my case, seeing that there's probably no way to achieve my goals. Well...
As for the ideas, I don't know if these are possible, whether you'd work on stroggdm or not, but I might aswell share them. I just came up with several things, among them are two modes for multiplayer. The first, which I don't have a name for would be like this - two teams, first consists of only one overpowered human player, the second team are all the rest of players playing stroggs. The goal of the human is to score as many kills as possible before he's killed by stroggs. Each player plays the "human" role at least once before the match ends.
The second mode - "kill the leader". Two teams of stroggs. One player (and only one) in each team is allowed to choose a powerful boss class, Makron maybe. A player like that becomes "the leader" of the team. Each team's goal is to kill the opposite team's leader, thus scoring a point. Obviously, the team with most points wins.

ALWAYS share mod ideas.
Even if they never happen, the discussion always leads to a great idea that usually gets put into practice.

I'm not really looking to do any StroggDM-related mods or anything. Nothing big anyways. Monsters are a pain.
