RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!
It is pretty freaking amazing. A few hours in, it's linear in large part but feels very Quake 1&2-ish mixed some minor rpg elements.
I'm playing the 360 version and it looks incredible.

There are many screens at the Rage webby though. It does have a tendency to lock-up completely (it's somewhat random) when new mission messages are about to pop up on screen. It's the only truly frustrating bug I've come across so far and compared to what the PC crowd has had to deal with...it ain't a big deal. Shame on id though for releasing such a buggy game on any platform. And I guess I'm going to end up more than a little pissed that so much of the world is clipped. I remember interviews and vids with the id folk saying that "if you can see it, you can go there". NOT!

I was very impressed by the amount of detail found everywhere. How does such a small team make so many resources in so little time?

id software has expanded alot since it release Doom 3. It is essentially a subsituary company now. They have around 3 times the amount of poeple working there now than they did back in the days of Quake 3/Doom 3. it's a big place now.

I'll buy Rage after a few more patches, when it's € 15 - 20. I'll also have the new box I need to play it by then. Three of my friends have it and they all think it's good but not awesome.

I was playing along steadily for a week or so but had to slack on it a bit and begin closing down the camp for the winter season. I'm not all that compelled to continue, I will but more-so to finish than to be re-immersed.
My time in-game has been a mixed bag though. My compliments and criticisms are almost verbatim of so many reviews.
Pros - The game (blurry textures aside) looks absolutely stunning. - The gun-play is very fun. - I'm 3/4 of the way though and the environments and enemies have been varied enough to remain fresh. - Some of the weapons feel very powerful, some not so much. The sniper rifle, pistol, shotgun and crossbow with exploding bolts are my mainstay. - The npcs are varied enough with great voice acting. - The game length (I play through games at a snails pace) is fine. At 3/4 through I'm at about 13 hours.
Cons - The driving is superfluous. - The racing is boring, the tracks are bland. - The rocket rallies are one of the low points of the game. Twisted Metal did this sort of thing much better. - While the world looks fabulous, there's practically no life to it. It feels like you're in virtual game map within a game, not a game world. - There's very little environmental interaction. The clipping is aggravating to say the least and ruins any sense of real exploration. - The player movement feels odd to me. Maybe it's due to me playing the 360 version but when you stop moving you don't really stop. You seem to slide a bit which is difficult to predict. It reminds me of the original Turok game. This "effect" makes aiming a lot more difficult than it should be with a controller. - There is no way to change the hud or crosshair BOO! The automap is not transparent and sits over far too much of the upper corner of the screen. I've read criticisms that say that this is a "consolization" issue...nope! I've played many games that give the player options and choices.
Overall, I'm enjoying myself more than not but I'm regretting the day-one-full-priced purchase just as I did with Doom 3. I may have finally learned my lesson where it comes to parting company with my very limited $ where id games are concerned. Quake & Quake 2 were definitely the high water mark for me.

Aight...just finished.
The end is definitely abrupt but not so bad really. It was a 17 hour play through for me and I ignored as much of the racing and mini-games as possible, neither are really my thang.
While playing I remembered the other gripes I have/had...
- The knock-back from enemy melee attacks is ridiculous and feels one sided. They knock me all over the place and my hits seem to do little at all. Same goes when you shotgun them when they're running right at you, you hit 'em twice and they still get to you and knock the bejabbers out of you. - The weapon switching takes and eternity. When you change ammo type you have to wait through a long-ish animation too. - The damage feedback when using any sort of zoom or scope absolutely sucks.
My conclusion would be that there's a fabulous game in there but you have a lot of aggravating crap to either ignore or wade through to play it. So it's well worth playing (and probably replaying) but wasn't worth paying full price for me. I'm kinda-sorta wishing I spent the money on Gears 3...but then again I feel that that I owe id an awful lot considering they birthed the brilliance that is Q2.

So, I'm trying to replay this one.
There's so much wrong with this game I won't even bother listing it all again. I've not had one session of play where there hasn't been a "hard-lockup". The update which was supposed to fix a lot of the problems has made the game all but unplayable.
Id owes me $60.

Wow, that's a shame. Is it worth buying from the steam holiday discounts? [I've been thinking about doing this]

Wow, that's a shame. Is it worth buying from the steam holiday discounts? [I've been thinking about doing this] That depends on how far along the PC version has come. It seems like it has its share of problems too. I had to quit playing my Xbox version. I'm sick of the hard freezes this dang game causes. As for game-play, when Rage is hitting on all cylinders it is great fun, otherwise it's pretty horrible. The driving aspect (easily 50% of the game) is pure garbage in my opinion. The fps elements are fun; the locations and enemies are interesting but lacking in real variety and the weapons feel decent. I recently finished Gears 3 and Vanquish. Both far exceed Rage in almost every aspect. It's my opinion only but I think Vanquish is a much better looking game aside from Rage's rocky bits, Gears not so much. I'd say that Rage would be a great bargain bin purchase. It certainly isn't up to Doom 3 or Quake 4 standards, so a cheap price would sweeten the deal. It seems so wrong to trash an id product so badly but everyone swings and misses now and then.

One last comment/s; Borderlands does everything Rage seems to want to do without the slightest hiccup. I luvz me some Borderlands and have played it all the way through five times, including the three major single player focused add on dealios.
