That really blows man. I've been lookin at the box each time I visit the game shop and thought about one day buying it.
I'm the same, it does feel bad to trash id for what they've done before - need I list the classics they've spawned? But yeah, alot of the things they're doing these days is purely to show the power of their engine off, never mind immersion...
...Tell you what though if they f**k up Doom 4 I'll be majorly pissed off about it. I love Doom and Quake 1 2 3 and 4, but Doom 3 felt like a tech demo, and now Rage is too from the sounds of it, and a very buggy one at that...
Maybe Carmack is getting bored...Maybe he feels like there's not much more to accomplish in graphical programming??? I don't know. But he is a genius, I'd hate for the passion he has to dissipate.
Oh well...Guess I'll keep playing the id classics - at least the replay value is still there for them.

My experience with it was that it was nothing more than a tech-demo. There are amazing user made maps for it though...simply amazing stuff. And for Rage, I feel like manic-depressive about it. What's great is truly great but what isn't is just plain horrible. I just wish I had time to play any game right now, even a bad one. Life is absolutely crazy for us but mostly good-crazy at least. There's just one dark cloud in the sky I'm hoping blows over. My old friend "the killer tumor" is maybe-possibly back for another round of fun...oh joy! I'll know more details in a week or so. I don't wanna have my head chopped open again...that darn stuff hurts like a mutha'! Next Q2 map contest; make a level of my head that's clear of slime, traps, lava and broke-assed-pitfalls.

Very sorry to hear about the dark cloud possibly coming back. I'm praying for ya m8! Right on brutha! He heard ya'. I don't have an active tumor right now, though I most likely will in time. BUT, the great news is that I won't be facing another horrible surgery for the foreseeable...phew! I have a disease that likes to create tumors in my ear/head. I can still hear just fine with my hearing aide (dang I'm old and busted...arthritis, hearing aid, reading glass and grumpy all the time) so all is well for now. I go back in in two months, could be good, could be bad news. My doctor/surgeon is one heck of a technician but a terrible human being towards his patients. I've come to understand that he treats most of his patients like garbage. I'll be moving on to another, if all is well after this round.

I actually went out and bought rage. Only paid $15 for it, so not ripped off at all and I gotta say despite all the bugs with the mega-texturing not working the way it should (my GTX460 can't have "detail textures" enabled as it only runs at 3-5FPS, turn it off and it's a solid 60FPS), the game still feels good to play. Very different from id's previous titles, so different it doesn't even feel like an id game, more like something from Bioware or similar company that makes RPGs, but it is refreshing. Only bummer is they programmed/developed it for the consoles first and then ported to PC, instead of following tradition and doing it the other way around...oh well. Next time id. The whole clipping thing bugged me too. I've been so used to being able to jump around almost uninhibited in all of ids previous titles. In this one I felt like a dog on a leash ("No no, you can't get to that spot at all, even tho it looks like you could"..."No you will be able to get those items when you come from the otherside once you spend half an hour shooting enemies") WTF??? Think you need to clip some of your clipping id. and noooo mod tools....that's almost criminal. Gosh imagine what we could do with id tech 5 in the modding community? For $15 though I like it, hell I like it anyway, and who cares if it only takes 12 hours to finish the game. Quake 2 only took 4-6 to play through and still poeple bitch about id softwares latest title. If I ever made it sound like I hate Rage I apologise - I really love it, and even tho it is another tech display, its a fun one, like every one of their previous titles - full of detail, and somewhat nice graphics... I just gotta get some $$$ to upgrade my Video Card so I can turn up the texture quality! ...oh, and a couple of ssd drives. those things rock!
