One of the biggest differences between mapping for Quake2World versus Quake2 is the requisite of defining all of your materials. Material definitions are what determine how a surface interacts with light sources, in addition to defining Quake3-style texture animations and other effects. You can read more about Quake2World's materials system here: quake2world.net/books/documentation/creating-levels/materials-systemBut what I wanted to show you guys today is the new in-game editor for materials. Previously, this all had to be done via text file. It was very time consuming, because you would have to edit the file to change a parameter, save it, and reload the map to see the result. Now, you can walk around the map and edit the properties of any material in seconds -- receiving instant feedback along the way: Thoughts?

That's pretty darn cool. Please port that to Doom 3.

Thanks! Having edited materials via text editor for a number of years now, I'm already saving time with this little tool myself!

Thanks! Having edited materials via text editor for a number of years now, I'm already saving time with this little tool myself! But having that skill set via a text editor gives you a advantage imo, ...just because a type writter can get the words down on paper faster does not mean it possesses the finely tuned inner thought process that comes from using a pen. You can look at the txt and see the map as a whole, where as I, for now, look at the txt and say WTF am I suppose to do with that haha. Every new skill set takes time but I personally look forward to looking at the txt and seeing the map inside the map. Having a tool such as the one your present here is definitively a plus and I would definitely add it to my growing tool box of tips, tricks, and tweaks. OrbQuake
