I've just gotten HTTP downloading added to KMQ2. What servers should I try connecting to to test this feature on?

I'm currently not able to connect to or ping your server. Is it down?

hi KM
with your kmquake2 dedicated next build are you gonna make it so if http downloading doesnt work for a file that it goes back to udp and then back to http?

i km
would it be hard to make the kmquake2 dedicated server protocol so that the q2pro and r1q2 clients work on a kmquake2 server?

I might be able to make failed HTTP downloads fall back to UDP, but I need a server setup so that will fail to test the feature. But maybe there's a specific reason R1ch didn't add that.
I'm not releasing a KMQ2 dedicated build. KMQ2 should not be used as a server for internet games, only LANs, due to the large, multi-packet messages its server sends over UDP.
And as I said earlier, it would be very difficult and pointless to make KMQ2's server compatible with other Q2 clients. I would have to remove every core improvement and feature, making it no different from a vanilla Q2 server.

The question I should have asked first is: Would any reasonable person who configured their server for HTTP downloads also leave UDP downloading enabled?

Yes, definitely. I've seen this on TastySpleen in the past. Sometimes maps that have recently been added to the game server are not yet synced over to the HTTP directory.

hi knightmare could you add the location feature to your next build of kmquake2 r1q2 example = bind v "say_team I AM at $$loc_here" bind b "say_team ENEMY at $$loc_here" q2pro example = bind v "say_team i am at $loc_here" bind b "say_team ENEMY at $loc_here" they both are a little bit differnt with the bindings with r1q2 $$loc_here and q2pro like this $loc_here plus you could add the ability with kmquake2 to write its own location files with a command im not sure what the commands are to write a location file in q2pro and r1q2 the file extension for a location file is .loc the link below is for a loccation file pack called Bartons-loc.zip,, it has location files for lots of maps here is a link -- www.freewill-mnh.com/index.php?dir=q2%20skins%2C%20textures%2C%20pak%20files%2C%20location%20files%2Cand%20other%20files/ the zip file is called BArton-locs.zip ok bye from macanah

I looked at making failed HTTP downloads fall back to UDP. It would be an enormous headache to implement for anything other than maps, pretty much requiring a complete redesign of the download system. The best I can reasonably do is have it temporarily disable HTTP downloading until the next map upon getting a 404 error for a .bsp. It's not worth the huge effort it would take to have it fall back for all files.
I took a look at that loc file code- it looks largely like a quick copy and paste job.

I don't have any version of Windows 8 and certainly don't intend to buy one, so I can only ask what your setup is. Do you have Q2 and KMQ2 installed under C:\Program Files(x86) or C:\Program Files? Those paths have access control problems for writing with Vista and later. What GPU and driver are you using? Do any other Q2 engines have this problem?
