Hello fellow Quake2 Gamer's been trying to load use this map mixer on some of are maps for D-Day Normandy and give them a update. Just that loading takes a very long time because I have so many textures in my Dir. and it looks like map mixer freezes up on me. What is like the avg. loading time of a texture Dir?

Hi, I'm a map collector, and I have over 45 thousand textures in my texture directory and Map Mixer takes only a few seconds to load. It should only take longer the first time you load Map Mixer 2 when it needs to generate and cache all the textures, but after that it should be quick. (You should let it generate first time) I suspect you either have an invalid texture somewhere on which it gets stuck (env or textures) or your Map Mixer wasn't configured correctly, which is more likely. It's important that you get things setup according to the guide step by step: www.netdoo.com/wodx/mapmixer2/(You could try starting with a fresh copy of Map Mixer and running again.) If you look at Step 2, it should say something like Making textures: 34/13233 If you don't see this at all, or it gets stuck on a specific number, this might be an indication of corrupt texture (perhaps bad env tga) you might want to remove. You could try temporarily renaming env directory to see if it's something in there, or moving portions of textures dir to narrow down the culprit. Let me know if this works, otherwise try to post a screenshot of the interface at the moment it gets stuck. What does it say for status? If you need more help, come by the Whale Server 74.86.171.203:27910, and I can guide you through it step by step.

Thank You Null that is alot of textures you have there. I just started playing with map mixer and is really cool with what it does. So if I understand this right all the textures are converted from a wal file to a jpg for upgrading a bsp map. But can it also update a map file also?

Hey quake2dday Map Mixer was designed for rapid visual adjustments of existing maps, and is by no means a full blown .map editor. It's perfect for the purpose it was designed, ex: I've got over 10 thousands maps and there's plenty of perfectly fine ones just gathering dust that haven't really seen the light of day. Since MM works directly on a bsp file in memory, there's no need for time consuming compilations or to create anything from scratch. You can change a look of any map in order to give it a face lift in minutes and not hours or days, as in case of .map file compilations. Although you can't really change the bsp's layout unless it is a movable brush, you can use entities to block off areas and partition existing rooms. You can adjust lighting, change all the textures, add or rearrange map entities such as items or guns, and we've even experimented with injecting bsp elements and dynamic lights. Here are some of the results we were able to achieve: leray.proboards.com/thread/3244/cool-map-remixes-updated-examplesleray.proboards.com/thread/3522/new-evil-dead-remix-screenshotsAs far as all the textures being converted to jpg, they are created so you can conveniently preview your entire texture palette of choices, in order to easily drag and drop and replace existing map textures as seen here: Just click on the "View Thumbnail Directory" to preview all the textures available to you for replacement. You should also extract all your standard textures contained in various .pak files in baseq2 and mod folders using a program like qped or pak explorer, so map mixer can cache those for preview as well.

got this error here now running MM2 changeHandler@Changed System.Runtime.InteropServices.ExternalException: A generic error occurred in GDI+. at System.Drawing.Image.Save(String filename, ImageCodecInfo encoder, EncoderParameters encoderParams) at ..(Bitmap , String , Int32 , Int32& ) at ..(String , Boolean , Int32& ) at ..(WatcherChangeTypes , String , String ) Probable Causes: 1) You (MM) don't have permission to write the file. 2) The file you're trying to write to is locked by another process. (Could try moving MM or Q2 to another directory, updating paths and restarting) How often does this happen? It looks like a generic permissions error, One of the textures it's trying to re-save, is open locally somewhere, so you should close the program in which it is open first. (Could even be explorer which would require a restart). Also if you installed quake 2 or MM on windows 7/8 in the program files directory where there's strict write permissions, you could try running MM in administrator mode or moving quake2 or MM somewhere else, and then adjusting the MM paths accordingly. Usually restarting MM or computer should fix a file lock (if another program has a texture open).

Wow Null 10,000 maps that is a very nice collection you have going there. Are any of your maps made for are mod DDay here. Plus I been searching for some custom maps that was on some Czech DDay servers maybe you have some that I have long been looking for here bgrville czdday1.bsp czdday2.bsp czdday3.bsp dust3 foh heh hory kondy konyk jur mendlak nabytek noraf1 podzemi pole rst03.bsp tank tloust TRENINK ukazka urban urban2 venice2 venkov By the way I loaded up map mixer 2 on a different pc and works just trying to find a map to play with is the hard part. A lot of DDay maps are based on villages and brick work finding the right one to replace the textures is not easy because maps do have to look good also.

Even though I have all these other maps, I never really frequented dday servers, certainly not the Czech or Polish ones, so all I was able to find from that list was urban and urban2, and they are Action Q2 maps: www.lahtela.com/aq2suomi/maps/urban.zipwww.lahtela.com/aq2suomi/maps/urban2.zipYou might have better luck contacting the admin of Land of D-Day server (24.63.162.49:27910) who appears to have some of them: Quake2dday@yahoo.com
