I don't have time to thoroughly test this, as this was an as-is port of the DDay game code to KMQ2.
That said, is the game hanging, or is the machine gun sound just getting stuck on? If it's the game hanging, it's very unlikely to be related to the sound code/settings, and is merely a crash or infinite loop in the DDay game code. Such a crash/hang can be debugged with Visual Studio Express Edition, just do a debug build of the DDay DLL and click "Debug with Visual Studio" instead of close it when it crashes, and send me a screenshot of the break point.
If the sound is getting stuck on, that's definitely a bug with entity looped sound handling in the DDay code.

First thank you for responding.
As I don't know the code I can't say with certainty. I have had it do it with other sounds.
What happens is the game appears to freeze on a visual frame (not a articular one, just whatever one it freezes on) and then the current sound begins to loop. The only way I have found to get out of it is to ctrl alt del out of it. So it apparently is not the sound doing it. The person who did the code (fafner) has retired so I doubt he is available, unless one coder can ask him.
Well maybe I can send this link and ask if he would address it. I can't as I don't know how the code works.
