spirit, do you have a list of all the maps you're currently using on the server? it's a pain downloading them directly from the game server for the ones i don't have.

I finally got around to testing out your server. I had a ping of around 130 but the game ran incredibly smooth, no stuttering whatsoever. I didn't have some of the maps you're using, and those even downloaded much quicker than I expected. Nobody else was on at the time though, so I can't say how it handled for me in that aspect yet. That said, it did run great while I was alone. I notice you have falling damage enabled, you might want to turn that off in the dmflags.

he set up the server for HTTP on the file downloads instead of the Q2 standard UDP packets.. It's a nifty feature of r1q2 that uses an apache server, I believe..
downloading maps/models/textures is much faster this way. You can set it up so people can download a whole mod in relatively little time too.
Sub: try hitting up the IRC channel if you wanna test it out with a player or two... grieve caught me in there today for a couple of test rounds on the server. good fun was had by all!
X7 is usually in attendance too

Yeah, simply grab the all-in-one zipfile here: www.airrocket.net/quake2/It includes aerowalk, darskill, epitaph, jabs, jeggs, jpal, jsos, jstress, leray28, leray33, leray33a2, outpost, q2duel5, s2dm1, shadows, spirit2dm1b4, square, wddm06 and ztn2dm1 - ztn2dm5. The server also has q2dm1 - q2dm8 (not included in the mappack) of course. @ Whirlingdervish: I'll set that up tomorrow. Already read up on it at r1ch's forum and started it, it's not done yet though.

spirit, your server started acting all goofy on me. i tried reconnecting a few times but when i'd finally get into the map, i'd get the little unplugged modem icon.. my internet connection was running fine though, so i'm not sure what happened.

Strange things just happened, noticed that too. It's most likely because it was 3 a.m. here at that time. I have setup cron to do lots of system maintenance tasks during the night at 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. so there's heavy load on the server at those times. Need some sleep now, will investigate further tomorrow. The games we played before that happened were fun anyways. Still lmao at that darksill map.

Thanks, that's quite a few maps. Is there any downside of having *many* maps on the server?
May piss off people who don't have most of them I guess...
I gave some more maps a try, really like the ones ztn made. Will try spogs later (hope my ping gets better till then).
EDIT: Fast downloads (gzipped files via apache) are now available btw.

"serenity" has long been one of my fave q2 maps; an excellent suggestion there Grieve.
