Great to find this ol place still around . There wouldn't happen to be any old map archives still kicking around from 13 years ago, would there? I recall someone was trying to archive every map they could find, and a forum search shows maybe it was Margaal (who has since vanished, though their website is still up). I am looking for our "Group Map Making Thingie", aka GMMT, that we all made together back in 2010, as I do not know which drive has the Quake 2 files, if they're even still around. Last heard, it was being stored on Deacon's Tomb.

I was reminiscing about a Modpack that added a whole ton of stupid weapons like a power drill and,.. I don't even remember what else and that led me back here to the cafe ^_^. Good times. Now you try to look up Quake 2 mods and it's just updated textures and graphics.. Are there any ancient repositories still around? I may use my web server to host my favorite stuff.. Actually that's a cool idea I think I'll do that. ^_^ - Mikemc

The last map I recall playing of yours (or it stood out the most) was a temple in the jungle. Lots of white stone and green moss & plants. I remember getting stuck on the stairs but it was very pretty and lighting was good.

Don't teleporters & spawn pads stop working if they are too far into the ground? I'm thinking brushes that come and go to turn them on and off

3rd pic looks great! Second has red lighting from where? First looks too much like Fullbright. Isn't the skybox orange? The 2 doorways on the 2nd floor don't have any shadows at all!

Was it in the center of the lava platform? I found 3 paths to get to it: - Jump across at the last moment - Pathway through the rock - Drop down from the Super Health

Yeah, Margaal wtf #26 was so dark and brown I couldn't believe you made it like that on purpose, so I figured it was something wrong with my client. Also, was one of your spawn points facing a wall?

Alright. I've never judged before so I figured I could get it all done fluently. I've changed the way I'm reviewing these so should get another 10 done by tomorrow.

Just loaded up the game, KMQ2 Brightness is default +1 and orange looks orange so I think that'll be fine.

Here is the code I used on a forum. It assumes the background is white, links are dark blue, small signature space.
Dear Quakers!
Q2 Cafe is proud to announce the 10th Mapping Contest that will be hosted at http://leray.proboards.com. This is the big 10 so we're planning something memorable. The last one was held back in December of 2011, making this one extra special given all the great ideas that have been saved up over the years!
There's no pressure to construct superb works of art, unless of course you want to, and we're also pretty flexible with the dates to accommodate new mappers and beginners alike. The past events were all smash hits that rewarded the Quake 2 community with awesome new maps, and we don't see that changing this time. We're looking for new talent as well as returning Pros, either way all sorts of contributions are welcome. Most importantly this contest is about the fun experience and group activity that will enrich and expand our playing field. We would hate for any capable mappers to miss out on this exciting event that will surely stimulate everyone's imagination for years to come!
There's already a number of old school mappers who are psyched to have this contest to showcase their latest work and mapping skills in a venue like the good old days. They know how much this kind of group fun can help inspire creativity. So I'm sure there's a lot more people out there who just need a little nudge and some motivate to unlock the mapper in them. Many have great map ideas they have been holding onto for many years, and some of them are now just itching to be realized. Imagine what you can make given all the great editors available today! Now's the time to do it and let your talent shine. All entries are welcome, big or small, they will all help make this Mapping Contest a success.
So please stop by Q2 Cafe, leave a comment and cast a vote. There you'll also find out about the latest developments in the world of quake 2 level design and more: http://leray.proboards.com/thread/3583/mapping-contest-2015
Cheers
