Dear anyone,
Currently, I have downloaded quite some number of Quake 2's map and they are all in the *.zip format. I am interested in knowing the actual dimension of the map. For example, the length(x-axis), height(y-axis) and depth(z-axis).
Am i able to retrieve this information from any of the files extracted from the zip file?
Please kindly advise.
Thank you.
Regards, lex

Not likely most authors would include the dimensions of the skybox/entire map. It's just not normally considered useful information for the end user. The only way to see the dimensions is if there was a .map file included. Why do you ask?

I am currently doing a research on Quake 2 which requires the information of the maps.
Thanks.

if you use Quark , you can open the .bsp up in the editor to view the map but you cant modify it/them. heres a link to quark if you didnt already know : www.planetquake.com/quark

Hi Kold,
Thank for the link to Quark.
I am able to see the outline of the map based on *.bsp files. However, is there a way to get the dimension of the entire map via Quark? I have tried but do not seem to find those information.
Can you advise me?
Thanks.

Lets say you have set the grid to X.
Now every dot would X units far from another (in x, y, z directions), so after all your distance would be like this
L = thinner_dot(line)_count * current_grid_size
(the bigger the grid - the simpler the calculations...)

Regards, lex Load the map in Q2, with the '+set cheats 1' setting. Lower console, type 'noclip'. Free-float to one of the far sides of the map. Type 'viewpos'. You are given the x, y and z value of your current position (values between -4096 and +4096), the 4th value is your angle relative to the x-axis (1-360°). Now float to the opposite end of the map and type 'viewpos again'. Repeat for all 3 axes. The differences of the x, y and z values are the dimensions of your map.
