Hi! I'm Sabotuer, I haven't mapped in a long time. But I got a little bored a few days ago and I was playing quake2 against bots and I was playing an old map I made and I said to my self "You really made this stuff, it's not bad. Can you still do it?" So I opened my qoole and startet by making a brush, and added a texture to it, then I made another brush and so on untill suddenly I had made a map, well half a map, it ain't finished yet. So I thought "I can still do it" so I added a bunch of lighting to it and guns and shit and compiled it, came with a lot of leaks and funky disappering walls at first but I finally got it all fixed. So here it is, The Rubin Temple --> sabotuer.greatnow.com/maps/rubin.zipOk I'm only half done with the map but it is playable, but only with like 4-5 people the most.

This is what I got. You should upload the file somewhere else, dude. A Hotlinking Error Has Occured!
We have detected a hotlinking error. Hotlinking is when you link to images or NON html files on greatnow.com from another host. Hotlinking is not allowed for our FREE Accounts. Hotlinking is allowed for our paid accounts. Your account can be upgraded in the user section when you have logged in. If you don't have webspace for it, you could send it with an email to me at mindrocker2000@yahoo.com. Then I would upload it to an accessible ftp server and provide the link here. Just an offer.

Hello Sabotuer! Welcome to the Cafe'. I, like Grieve, was unable to download your zip. Could you please try to correct the link, because we would really like to beta test your map. Hope you continue mapping and let us know if we can help you out.

O.K. I checked it out and I overall this is a good map. I think with some changes it could be a lot better. I think you have a talent for making maps because on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this map a 6, which is better than average. If you just started to map again, I think with some practice, you could be a really good mapper. Keep in mind that these comments are meant to be constructive criticism and since you posted this map in the beta testing area, I’m giving you my comments on the map. Here are some of the negative and positive things I found in the map. Negative:Skull texture under rail gun is off, it needs to be re-aligned. I would sink the spawn points. I find this cleans up the map and just looks better. I play MOD’s without a hook and without a hook you can’t get to the rail gun. I would add a new sky file, just to update the look of the map a little. You may want to add a decorative trim (fancy texture) to the existing top part of the room above the Super Shotgun. That would spice it up a bit. I would make the red ball in the lava room rotate or something. It’s a cool looking cage, but the ball is just sitting there. The orange lighting in the area by the rocket launcher (and other areas) is too much. You may want to go with more natural looking light or maybe tone the orange down a little. I would move the ammo out of the wall holes, it’s too hard to get to in battle. I couldn’t find several weapons. I like to see every weapon added to the map, that way it can be played on different MOD’s. Positive:Outside area with Super Shotgun looks really good! The floor switch that activates the lava is really cool. I really enjoy things like this in a map. Good texture work, everything looks neat and clean. Map has a good layout. The steps look good. I hope you can make some of these changes and put it up for testing again before final release. Also, maybe some of our other beta testers will be able to give you some comments. It's always good to see new Q2 Mappers here on the Cafe'. I hope these comments help you out.

thanx for your comments The railgun jump is hard yes, but it's possible, without rocket jumping. Try a little harder (double strafe jump) a new sky, I don't know, maybe, I'll think about it, I was trying to make the old fashioned q2 look of it with a taste of a little ztn hallways. the orange colour, I'll tone it down, I like the colour I tried to have the ammo a halfway in the wall holes, so you could run by the walls and catch them, but if it's not enough, I'll move them. and the weapons, well as I said, it's only half done, more areas to come. I will probably move everything around but it will end with weapons hopefully My idea of gameplay for the map was like the original q2 maps that came with the game, you have through the map to get the real good weapons. Like you can see the weapon in one place but you can't just walk to it, you have to go through some trouble to get it. (the rocket luncher for example) Also I'm gonna make some areas where you walk behind a place and you suddenly are in another area of the map, some kind of a shortcut. the trap idea was also from the original q2 maps, they have a lot of traps, often more then one.

Version 1.01 of The Rubin Temple same link as above ("right-click" then "save as") List of changesIt got a bit bigger, the addition is a new way to the railgun, plus a drop to the quad. Toned down the orange lighting, hope you like it better Le Ray. Added a grenade luncher in the ss room, moved the ss to a new area. Red ball (the rubin) rotating. Spawnpoints hidden below the surface. Some items moved or changed. Fixed texture alignment and a couple of brushes that were to big. End of listI will add a new area to place the railgun (I will put a hyperblaster where the railgun is now) in the next version. Will hopefully be done by the end of the weekend, if I won't get to pissed!
