Some problems coming. i convert a bsp to a map with winbspc then convet the map to bsp. some problems coming.The light is strange and some strange texture comes.some read clip(red color) some read hint(green color) some read skip(yellow color) screenshot before converted converted God save me

recreating the map file from a bsp file is not really a conversion, it is rather reverse - engineering. there can be lots of errors. usually when I decompile a bsp file using winbspc, there are some broken polys and faces in the resulting map, the lighting is wrong and the positions of many entities is off. there is more in a map than meets the eye, and hint-, clip-, trigger brushes usually can't be seen but are there. check out tutorials about that, that's important stuff and can't be told in a few words here. when you decompile the map and then recompile it and you can see these "strange" textures, then there is an error somewhere. probably the flags are not set for all faces of the hint- or clip-brushes properly (they were in the original, but not in the decompiled version anymore). when such a brush has the flags set for some faces and others not, it can be seen in the game, which is not supposed to be. a hint brush must have set the "hint" and the "nodraw" flag for all faces equally, for example. basically, whenever you decompile a map, you will have to fix some errors manually befor re-compiling it. it's not an error-free process. but you know that maps are still the intellectual property of their creators ? if you want to modify them you should check out the readme file for the map if the author allows you to do so. decompiling someone else's map and doing whatever you want with it, then releasing it as something new under your own name, is by no means legitimate and acceptable.

Thanks for dehortations about copyright.Did you mean I have got some tortious doings?OMG,i am sorry for it! But if the author doesn't allow me to do so,what would i do?Rebuild all myself?How do the q2dm1s come?there are kinds of modified q2dm1.Does they all get the free copyrights from the official q2dm1.Or they are all rebuilt from one entity and one entity?Faint

humm .... now, edge variations are a tradition of their own kind in the Q2 scene. and everyone knows what the edge is, noone will guess that the maker of the modification has invented this map. this is somehow tolerated. but a problem could be if you take an edge variation which already has original additions and inventions by someone else, and add further modifications, but without crediting the person who made this modification you use as a base. this would be like stealing someone elses's work. you should give credit to anyone whose work you use in any way, at least. that's good style.

modifying iD's original maps is a special case, I guess. that's a typical fan- and community activity and will be mostly tolerated, may it be perfectly legal or not. in general, it is especially the game media which is still iD's property, the levels, textures sounds, models. this is the reason that the old games are still sold for money, even after the source code for engine is made public. a legal copy of the game must be bought in order to play mods and create stuff. the media content of the games is NOT free. but certain fan activites will be tolerated, and creating modifications of the original maps is one of them. it is the community which keeps the games alive after all.

i am crashed.OMG,Piles of errors came during decompiling.How desperat it is.Sos.it alway tell me "side not found for portal",Map is leaked..........so annoying!!!!Fix here and problem comes from another place....So many lacunas between cubes and cubes!!!!Killing me? who can tell me how did others recompiled the edge?Who can give a good q2dm1.map?(better for the q2dm1pro)....3Q
