Do you guys feel there is enough interest in the speed mapping to continue doing it?

I'm still waiting for Grieve to finish his map for July, but aside from him no one else has submitted anything. Maybe it's just because it's summer time and people are busy with real life. It doesn't seem like many people are interested in it though, unfortunately.

I agree with Subatomic. It seems like (well, for me) that a yearly contest is enough (maybe 3 in a 2 years time), and have the few mappers, who have the time to make more, just surprice us all. Iam allways soo... damn happy to be surpriced by a new map ones a while, arent you? Well just my 2 cents...... W1

I would keep it. it's a great skill training for any mapper. setting up some rules will be unavoidable tho.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm not into speed mapping. Some thoughts anyways:
Having a speed mapping contest all of the time (every month) feels like having none at all. I'd therefore make the speed mapping contests "events" by holding them like 3 - 4 times a year, depending on the number of participants.
This would also make the contest more rewarding for the mappers who submit a map: it's kind of useless to submit a map for a contest when you know you're gonna be the only one who does so. Feels more rewarding to have less contests, but some more submissions on those.

I think the time line is perfect. A month allows enough time to complete map, but not enough time to just sit around letting it collect dust.
I'm just as guilty as anyone else having not put out a map in a long while, but as soon as I get a PC that works, I'll be getting busy again.
Another important thing to remember about speed mapping is that you aren't necessarily putting out your best work and we all understand that. What it does though, is allow new maps to come more often and that alone could inspire someone to make something incredible after being inspired by something that they see generated from this community.
Good luck to you all and hope to see more maps in the future.

I guess we can keep it around for a few more months and see what happens.

I think we should wait out the slump..
summer is usually a slow time for gaming/mapping, and as we get into fall, I'm sure that more people will be participating.
I've been so busy this summer with work that I haven't had much energy or time to spend mapping, but the cause of all that is coming to an end pretty soon here, as we're almost moved into our new building.

I already see this as an event, not really as a competition. We can easily rename it into "The Quake 2 Cafe's Monthly Speedmapping Event" I think it's great stuff to try out themes and ideas. And still halfway decent maps can be the result.

Count me in if you are still willing to hold a speed mapping contest. I think 3 or 4 times a year should be a good number to keep people interested.
