Well well, its been like... long years since... me and quark. Finally today its time to revive my maps. so Ill start streaming maps. some finished some need to be. This maps set on my computer for years... Isnt that a shame?.. anyway lets start with a rocketarena type of map. its not exactly a map. (It was supposed to enter my RA2 maps pack ive planned with many cool ideas..) this one is a competition betwin two players (knights) each one goes into the cannon and then the two are being shot at the same time. each has one second to shoot the other. so its like a knights spears war. really fun ive tested it with my cousin it we both had lots of loughs drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B2xTXNp3qtJXZWFMTmhoN0pVdEE?resourcekey=0-8h-ZhwI1aI_cw-cjX-z5xA&usp=sharinggo into my dropbox run this map on RA2 mode. more maps to come soon.. at any case im gonna realse all my stuff. even in the original quark file so if someone wanna edit or change they can do that.

tnx for showing some life. the truth there is no point for making maps for no interest. The Truth Hardcoal. My english is too bad to respond seriously on this depopulation problem.. ...i can try... Can only share my experience from the 2 years that I'm back and active with mapping on this great forum!.. Q2cafe has Many visitors...A small group responds.. ( Game is on age...a small community ). Not everyone has time to read forum.. .....time is precious, family, real life stuff....... .....and we all know mapping is time consuming..... Or Perhaps people get lost on this forum, and miss messages from others?, i get lost sometime. i mean , see a map from you for the first time in my Q2 career... And I'm active. i don,t have all the answers, me just a small piece of the puzzle. ======

the truth im too busy for mapping and mapping doesnt supply money this days. im a programmer as well. the passion of quake has gone down and its a shame its the best multiplayer action game ever to my opinion.
unreal doesnt have the cool movement of quake 2 this double clicks jumps just doesnt equaier acceleration and i feel dumb alway doing hu hu's with double clicks.
quake2 cant go up because the community is dying.
it need a new version of engine but with same functionalities (or add some more i love the unreal elevator jumps..)
also a better mapping tool.
well im going too far..
for me mapping is art more then anything. i like to make maps that looks great and transmit some atmosphere
maybe if someone will release a quake2 version with a server implanted inside of it then people will play it more...
cheers

What would you want in a new version of the Q2 engine? Does KMQuake2 have any of what you want? What improvements would you want in mapping tools? Is it something that could be added to Radiant? What do you mean by Quake2 with its own server? Q2 has both client and server in one executable, and when you play locally against bots, you're playing on your own server. Ditto for single player.

-I dont know Radiant so well and also didnt it stoped being developed?
-kmquake2 im checking it now... ok checked.. wow looks great great features like 3d person view.. also quake2 xp looks great.
but the problem with quake is that its low frame limited when making a big map with details
the main things that will raise quake from the grave.. by order of priorities
1) a built in server browser 2) a faster loading process for maps from a server. (maybe a main server that gives this service will do) 3) a built in editor.. (recommended) 4) loaded hall of fame of personal and public achivments will be also nice
for me its hard to replace quark editor with any other ones its explorer and negative folders and more makes mapping conviniant but still its a slow process and old.
about fast compiling
i dont know what you guys do when you compiling but when i compile i put
Vis3 on -fast and rad3 on -chop 80 and -dump
thats the fastest way i know. the chop reduce alot of the compiling time and still its looks great
its also will be nice to implement in quake 2 hall of fame section that is updated from a server.
thats it.
general remark about forums structure one thing i want to say about all forums structures. it always show the first remark on the top and not the last one. so you have to scroll down every time you enter. it would be nice if the last message will appear top first instead of the opposite. (or a button that switches modes. or a button that takes you straight down is also an option)

Implement patches like q3 would be nice.

but the problem with quake is that its low frame limited when making a big map with details Low framerates with high r_speeds are already addressed with the v3.24 patch and the just-released hotfix4 for KMQuake2. It turns out that Q2's multitexture rendering code does some very inefficient things... Faster downloading from servers will require HTTP downloading, which is already in R1Q2, and I can probably implement this in KMQ2. A server browser should also be doable. Building an editor into the game .exe is a very very large undertaking, and raises OS portability issues (using MFC like QERadiant does will not be portable to MacOs & Linux). Achievements would require an online account system with login. For compiling maps faster, I add "-threads 4" to both qvis3 and arghrad, as I have a quad-core CPU. If you have a hexa-core, you can use "-threads 6", and so on. The more cores/threads, the faster! Patches will require Q3 BSP support. This is on my to-do list, but it may not be in the next release.

the most important issue to me you didnt share an opinion knightmare
a built in servers browser
also about the threads i dont see an option for this in the list of both qvis3 and arghrad. which versions supports this?
general remark im abit sorry i left mapping for so long i lost many projects and ideas. but quake mapping doesnt make money

For a server browser, I'll need some sample source to work with, as I doubt I'll be able to code such a thing completely from scratch. I don't know of any open-source server browsers that work with Q2.
On the interface aspect for that, I already have a widget system for the required GUI elements.
QVIS3 and QRAD3 have always supported the "-threads" parameter. It's part of the common code shared by them. Just don't specify more threads than CPU cores you have, or it can end up running slower.
