Did a search here to see if I could find anything, I'm looking for any recommendations for an installer package for Q1 like tasty has on there site for those looking to return to Q2 but don't have the disk and want something full proof. Any assistance on this would be extremely helpful if there is anyone here still involved in Q1.

There are two communities: * Quakeworld: MP-focused, mainly at www.quakeworld.nu/forum/* Quake 1: some MP, but also many SP maps. Most important community is quakeone.com/, and there is an excellent archive of very high quality SP maps at www.quaddicted.com/Both have links to up-to-date engines, mappacks, active servers, etc. For mapping, they meet at func_msgboard, a site which you most likely know already (http://www.celephais.net/board/). The modders (quakec and other stuff) tend to hang out at inside3d.com/. A lot is happening on IRC. You will get to know the channels when you visit these community websites listed above.

Speaking of Quake 1, can anyone recommend me really good Q1SP maps? I've played pretty much every Q2SP map out there and I feel like spicing things up with some classic Quake.

Marine, check out the page spirit & margaal mentioned www.quaddicted.com/, I would recommend getting the "Quake Injector" from that page as it lets you sort all Q1 maps available from their database by "rating", and with one click you download/install/run the map. It is awesome. Anything with Sock is legendary, but if I were to recommend one map that I personally loved it's "Day of the Lords" by GlassMan, it's from 2003 but the 'Castle' theme and feeling of that map is incredible.

Thanks a lot for the tips, Margaal & Giftmacher! I'll be sure to check out Sock and GlassMan's stuff!
Man, the Quake Injector is INCREDIBLY useful. I sure wish we had something like that for Quake II - that would be amazing.
