Couldn't figure out where to post this so posting it here. If I can get 15 mappers plus I will put up a $100.00 prize for the winner out of my own pocket ( one hundred US dollars ). I wish I could participate in the mapping side of it but for now my skill in that department isn't even at a noob level as I just joined up with in the last couple of days. Lots of future reading to do in the Q2C before I add a brush stroke. I have a big imagination so expect the mapper beast at some point in the future. For now, I will just gaze at my future competition and plan for your demise We can as a group work out all the details for the contest, if needed I will admin it as well. I know the prize money and glory recognition is not like the grand ol days of Quake 2 when sponsors would step up and really sweeten the pot. It is something though, maybe one day I will win the lotto and really sweeten the winners circle. I will be a mapper beast by then hopefully so I can win back my own money lol. The frag is in your court, ya gonna gib up and fade out or clean that ol Quake2 mapping desktop off and show me what ya have left in the reserve tank

let's see if we can motivate some peeps to join in. tho I guess we won't get 15 mappers together, maybe 5 or something.

grieve[Q2C] you must be looking to shrink the competition field and make some easy money lol. Good to hear from you btw! I understand where your coming from though, so I'll split it down the middle with ya and except 10, I don't want the playing field to be to easy for you. I'm not expecting a mad rush over a hundred dollars, but as I said its a start For me personally, its more about the camaraderie of it more then anything. I've made friends from all over the world from the Quake series. My favorite though is Quake 2 even though I enjoy them all. I can remember quite a few money making maps I played on back in the day. Doing my research on the mapper then sending them an anonymous email encouraging them to keep making more. Some of those old mappers are dead now but I remember them. They really added to my experience and from a hardcore players perspective I do miss them. In the end, first place last place, meh who cares. You created something and though it might not be my cup of tea, it is surely somebodies. Perhaps your idea inspired someone else's idea to spring forward. Your name might not be a part of the credits but you are for sure a brush stroke hidden in the map. There are a few names I recognize from lurking around on the boards. I hope your all doing fine and having a great life but do yourself a favor, come back and make another and another after that. Participate in a few threads here and there. Yah its time consuming and sometimes frustrating, and you probably should be doing something else that needs doing. But isn't that the point of mapping, playing, and place's like the Quake 2 Cafe, forgetting about all the weight of life on your shoulders. On a side side side note, I have some interesting challenges to bring forward if those that are willing to participate are willing to go into it blind and allow me to have "complete" admin "control". By this I mean for example, you sign up for a blind mapping competition and you honor your participation in it regardless of the idea presented. I believe I can also bring a few ideas that will help handy cap some of the more experienced mappers against those just starting out/dabblers. This way everybody can have fun, be challenged as well as enjoy the intensity of competition. Did I really just say first place last place doesn't matter As well I have some resources in my back pocket I can bring forward for top tier prizes as well besides just money for these blind competitions. For now lets see what happens with this one. If you need a little motivation for a mere $100.00. I want each and every mapper, dabbler, lurker, to remember that first moment you sat down, built your first map or even laid your first brush. How excited were you and when it was completed Then when the players started playing on it Don't just remember it, look at yourself in the mirror and remember it! I'm and old player and I am gonna try my hand at mapping because its something I have never done, not only for myself but as well outta respect for those mappers that made my life a better place to be. If your a lurker, sign up for an account, if your afraid of asking stupid questions cause your just starting out, don't be. I'll probable be leading the pack in stupid questions Other then that, I'm going back to my binge watching the Vikings series and finish off season 2. Then I am gonna do some reading on learning how to map.

Thanks for your participation in the thread grieve.
Participants will happen if given enough time, imo.
Judging super easy, I have friends on the outside who are willing to participate in this if no one with in the Quake 2 cafe has the time.
Also, apologies to the admins for not running this by anybody first, I didn't think it would be a problem posting this and would be welcome.
Hoping for some feedback as well.

For any members of the Quake 2 Cafe as well as non member lurkers following this thread I will post updates on the progress of the "Q2 Money Makers Open Mapping Tournament" here. This is all new to me, the mapping side of gaming as well as taking on an admin role for it, have a little patients. I do have a range of other experiences in the gaming world that will carry over in to this field. Just want to do my best as well bring something different to the table. For those in the over 50 or 60's club like myself, I'll do my best to have it all done before you have a heart attack or I do lol. Currently researching online topics on what makes a map makers mind tick. If you are a current/non current mapper and want to provide some input from your personal perspective from your Quake 2 years, please feel free. Post here or msg me, whichever you are more comfortable with. Also, after having discussed this little endeavour with some close gaming friends current and retired, the prize pool may get a very healthy dose of some bling bling and shazam, will see

Have to say, after doing some pretty heavy duty reading over the last 24hrs/48hrs. That all you mappers, apologies, level designers, are a pretty intense group of smart mother fkrs!
Admiration and respect for your field from the highest personal level!
!!Just mind blowing!!

I'm interested in participating, after I've released the map editor and tool set I've been working on.
We'll soon have a new QERadiant with full support for custom models (model_spawn, etc.), as well as being able to actually see hi-res textures in the editor as they appear in enhanced Q2 engines. The editor will also support Q3Radiant plugins like Gensurf and Curry. Also included will be a new build of ArghRad 2.01 that supports more total lightmaps and a new point-and-click font end with tons of options, somewhat like Q2Beavr.
This will open up some new editing possibilities, so you may want to hold off on the contest until I have this editor/tool package ready.

knightmare, that sounds awesome! Anything that will help bring more participants and allow them to express their own unique creative abilities further is always worth waiting for. If I get near the point where I am ready to announce the mapping invitation I'll give you a heads and check in to see how your doing on your time line. I'm still bringing all the little/big pieces together on my end for it. This isn't going to happen over night though, so don't feel there is this mega rush to get it all done. Thanks for bringing this information forward and participating in the thread. Collaboration is always always always welcome in my world. Side side note, I've been doing some reading on the knightmare port you have going on for my own personal growth and the unique abilities it brings to creating maps as well as the game itself. Have to say I am very very intrigued by it. I will post my questions under the correct thread in the future, keep an eye out for them.

I am up to participating. If this goes on i can advertise it around if necessary.
About the blind map session idea is good, but probably thinking ''small'' will be better till we are sure we have people.

cocerello, welcome to the thread and thanks for participating On the advertising side of it anything and everything will help for sure. I'm running a few thoughts through my head on it and I will bring them forward in the future for an open discussion by all just to get some different perspectives. On the blind mapping thing, I agree, I am not thinking of throwing out something huge on the first blind mapping invitation I throw out. I want people to have fun but be challenged, in the end I don't want people to come back for prizes I want them to want to keep coming back for the blind ones because they are fun and challenging. From a mapping pov the first one will be easy, its actually quite simple, all you have to do is make one room. But there is a catch, and that's the blind part insert hard core players smile I have a just a little bit of a creative lan "hang over" today lol so I need to take care of that to get ready for the next round, its glow in the dark night tonight which is always a big hit.
