You can bind a single key to "toggle cg_thirdperson" instead of separate keys to turn it on and off. Cvar toggling also works in Q2 v3.24.
Also, did you try the latest nightly build that adds an adjustable horizontal offset (cg_thirdperson_offset) to 3rd person mode? It makes aiming a bit easier.
BTW, cl_maxfps isn't used if async is on, r_maxfps and net_maxfps control max render fps and max command rate instead.

actually made it harder to aim the offset thing for me now when i use writeconfig saves it to some other folder preffered the other way now im getting wierd callback errors didnt happen on ur last nightly build

Did you add -portable to KMQ2's command line or create a blank portable.cfg in the baseq2 folder? That's in the build's text file. That restores the old Q2 behavior.
I've changed KMQ2 to save to the Saved Games user profile folder (and Downloads go in the user profile Downloads folder) by default, so the game doesn't have to be run as administrator when the user doesn't have write access to the Q2 folder.
It looks like you've got 24-bit texture downloads on, you should turn that off in the Multiplayer->Downloads menu unless you're connected to a server that you know has tga/jpg/png textures set up for download. The additional download attempts are from the Q2Pro path fallback. You can turn off HTTP fallback in the same menu.

maplist problem using r1q2 ded sv with kmquake2 client -- not all of the maplist loads in console using maplist cmd
