has anybody here played Quake 2 RTX, Q2 with raytracing ? I tried, but it seems my rig is probably not up to date, would need a newer version of OpenGL, just didn't work. but it looks great !

You need an RTX card for it to run properly. Try getting one of those right now at MSRP!

Nope! It's totally dependent on a retexture set with normal maps. If you try to run, for example, the official mission packs, you'll see lots of black surfaces because there are no retextures for those. It also needs some hand-crafted lighting data.
The same goes for any lighting method that requires lighting data that can't feasibly be procedurally generated at map load time.
Not to mention that little thing I have where I never add features I can't personally test.
