news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20050824/sc_afp/austriaweather;_ylt=A86.I2BDFw1D6.kAIxRoWrEF;_ylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYw Well, this was worse than it looked first. Innsbruck, where I live, was kinda lucky. My room is some height meters above the level of the river Inn which floats through Innsbruck, so I wasn't too concerned personally. When I went home yesterday I saw the fire brigade at work on the main road of my district. There were fragile looking provisional barriers of sand bags and excavated material right on the street, and a vast flood of muddy water floating inside of them, over the street and through the park, back to the river. I wondered where the water came from, because it was shooting up like a big, fat brown fountain. Looking closer, I saw that it came from the sewerage ! Which was so much under pressure from the water masses passing through it, that the water was shooting out like a fat well, flooding the street !! And this a few meters from where I live. Apart from that, the Inn didn't get out of his riverbed much inside the city, only slightly and in few places. But in other parts of Western Austria it was really, really bad. I would't have thought this until I was reading the news.

Here are some pics from the news that show how it looked in my district. ;D Now, how would it feel to you if you saw this 1 meter away from your house door, with only a few sandbags between you and the waters ? I noticed that the people were really calm, btw, which was really cool. The house where I live is not bordering the street directly, it can't be seen here. It's like 50 meters away and some height meters above. Fortunately, the spook ended very soon. This fountain was gone 1-2 hours later.

That's pretty bad....and I can tell you, having your house flood is not a fun thing. I went through that last year and it is really devastating. Hope it never happens again. Good luck to you and your town!
