It's alot of fun fighting in this suit! It's pretty darn protective, yet offers fair mobility.
I need it to withstand about 30 more fights before the end of the season! Just one fight can wreak havoc on armour. Hopefully I will not need to make any repairs.

Nice. the visor is quite striking.. how's the perriferal vision? so KF.. are you with the SCA or another group?
Do you generally fight one-on-one or with a squad/team?
Until recently I was affiliated with a pretty grisly looking bunch of guys that practice medieval combat techniques and strategies.. From blunted swords and clubs and such to soft-tipped arrows. I used to be pretty good with a sword but I've been out of practice the last few months... My practice war hammer needs to be refurbished too.. Need to re-grip the damned thing..

The SCA has too many rules for our tastes. We fight with rattan weapons that have some padding on them. We allow punches, kicks, elbows, knees, takedowns, and pretty much anything you can dish out. The perriferal vision is OK. So far, this is the best helmet I have tried out. When I bought it, it had lots of tiny holes in the visor. I cut slits into it then placed a black mesh screen inside. The 'scales' at the base of the helmet limits my ability to turn my head. (They catch on the leather beneath.) However, it really doesn't affect performance. We mostly fight one on one. However, we sometimes do 2 on one, or 2 on 2, or 3 or 4 all against all. Our current 'pit' isn't big enough to house more than 4. We do have plans to renovate our pit and make it into a large octagon. I fought yesterday again. Lots of fun, I tell you! Now I need a couple days to let my muscles relay. hehe

That's awesome bro.. All them rules aren't for me either.. I would mutch rather be able to make good solid contact while sparring. I like the pit idea, makes for nice close quarters. no retreat.
You guys should also try some battles on open ground. It provides some extra challenge when you have to take terrain into account. trees and rocks can turn an enemies weapon fairly easily if you use them to good effect.. uneven ground tends to lend the person who can keep the uphill position a pretty decent advantage.. Keeps your legs in good shape too..
I've always used a pair of shinai when it came to swords. Always used them as single-edged blades, like a katana or dosu...I had a long double edged one in the making, l like a claymore, but scrapped the idea when it got down to making a workable crosstree.. Couldn't fabricate it out of anything that was too hard cause I tend to club people with the guard when I get close.. But it doesn't guard my hand much when its soft and pliable...
My war hammer is mostly soft.. lots of padding, wooden haft.. except for the d-cell batteries buried in the center of the head for weight... Never used a sheild bigger than an 18 inch buckler so I've had to practice alot to get quick with it.
If you don't mind me asking where do you buy the pieces for your armor? I've always had to make my own stuff... altered fencing helms, metal plated hockey gear..

The shoulders and elbows are from armstreet.com. The knees are from stonekeep armoury. All other items were made by myself. This is my 4th body armour piece. They keep getting better and better!
Our fighting 'pit' is not really a pit so to speak. It is a somewhat flat piece of land with a top layer of sand that is surrounded by thick pieces of wood. The ground gets uneven at times, but is not too tough to level out again. (We keep a rake on site.)
I like the idea of open battles. We will have to try it sometimes. Perhaps a 'protect the princess' battle or something like that. Lately, we have been really enjoying the battles with more than 2 fighters. Seems like the audience does too!
I kinda dig a 2 handed sword for combat. However, I have recently rediscovered how awesome a good shield/sword combo can be. During 'weapon of choice' tournaments, the weapon I choose may depend on who I fight and what they wield. (Kinda like paper, scissors, rock.)
