Invisible Users are signed up accounts who wish not to be disclosed as online. Guests are.. well, guests.

hehe.
I guess there really is no reason to be invisible unless you just don't feel like logging your user out any time that you don't want to be bothered.
It seems that hitting the "log out" button and becoming a "guest" would be slighlty easier in the short term as it only involves clicking one thing..
In the long term, changing the one setting in your profile to make you invisible takes less energy than continually logging in and out.

Only admins can see invisible users when they're online, though. I think some people just use it as a means of privacy. The vast majority of users on deviantART.com are marked "invisible" as well. I can only imagine it being useful if you're an incredibly popular person--it would allow you to browse the website and do what you want without having 800 people seeing you're on and sending you notes, trying to talk to you, or whatever. Otherwise, it does seem kind of pointless.

When I was a trainee at an IT-company I used to set my preferences to "always invisible" on some very common IT-forums so other employees of that company couldn't see that I was online during the working time. I didn't post, of course, but it's nice to be logged in so you can easily figure out what you've already read and what's new.

Otherwise, it does seem kind of pointless. Just fell over this again. And must say this; when 300 members log in and only 2 or 3 are invisible, it very clear who they are and what they post, right. Thats the reson I think its so silly. I think we all should be invisible and then, when a few, 2 or 4 are not!, we will know who they are... In my timezone Grieve usually log in in the morning and a couple of times during the day. Subatomic late in the night and some times in the early mornin time. And accasionally during my day (hes night). Le Ray very often around noon (still my time), and then again after work in the evening (still my time).. My time is plus 7 hours added to the the US eastcoast time. Well, thats my guess, whats yours?? W1
