I was wondering if any of you guys think that downloading games that don't get sold anymore commercially - games like Doom 1 and 2, Wolf 3D, Corridor 7...etc, is a bad thing?
I mean, I did that big piracy purge by cutting up all my burnt CDs, but a few of them had games on them that weren't sold where I live anymore, but I really enjoy playing them. Is downloading these games a crime still? or is it the whole "5 year" rule???
Just wondered. I really like the old games myself.

Well if the companies aren't selling the game anymore than they aren't making any money on it anyways so in my opinion downloading them is fine

Unless they are labeled as Abandonware, then they are illegal to get. In reality, I agree with James, but that's not the way the gaming industry is.

games like Doom 1 and 2, Wolf 3D, ID is still selling those games on their own site and through Steam, so it is a crime to download them. Like Paril says once they are abandonware, and the original manufacturer doesn't object, then you can download them and not feel guilty. Have a look at Home Of The Underdogs. www.the-underdogs.info/

I would still really like to order the legit versions of them games. I have Wolf3d and spear of destiny on one cd and that IS a legit copy. There's just something awesome about the older games, I probably won't ever tire of playing them. Should see if I can order them soon, I wanna keep them to show my kids when I have some, or nephews when my sisters have kids.
