...Q3DM17.. ..has been THE most played Q3A map. Sometimes everything just works right! That makes me want to see this map really really bad!... but I don't do Q3, dang.

Ok.. hmmmmm.. what about this.. someone (like Le Ray, respectively), could be in charge of: A. Posting a new thread in a forum called The Q2 Cafe's Monthly Speed Mapping Extravaganza every last or first day of the month, and could include: - A standardized short intro and concept of the Extravaganza (e.g... "The Q2 Cafe's Monthly Mapping Extravaganza includes new Q2 maps, (below), that were created within a strict 30 day time limit and submitted to the Q2 Cafe' for feedback and review. Feel free to put these maps on your server and/or post any comments in a pros/cons/ or suggestions format below. (no pics of any kind please!")
- A zip file of all speed maps (hosted by Cafe')
- 640x480 screenshots, (3 per map), w/Level name, Map name, Mapper's name, and a short (1-3 lines) description of the project from each mapper to go with each map
- A short outro after the last map's last screenshot with info linked on how to submit or review maps (e.g.. "To learn how to submit maps for review, or how to become a Q2 Cafe' Reviewer, click here." (links to initial thread that has been created in each of the new forums called Q2C Guidelines for submitting or reviewing new Q2 maps) where you will see:
Guidelines for Mappers:Follow instructions at this link <insert link to Q2C Map Submitting Form> to submit maps - Keep an open mind
- Use whatever you want
- Create like you want to, but don't set unrealistic goals
- Work to the deadlines (monthly, quarterly, or both)
- Help other mappers when possible (reviewing, testing, program tips, sharing artwork, lending solid advice, etc)
- Avoid trying to 'outdo' other mappers
- Remember that your art and words will be blasted around the internet and will be a reflection of the Cafe'
- Have fun!
Guidelines for Map Reviewers:- Keep an open mind
- Review each map as timely as possible and provide feeback in a pros/cons/suggestions format.
- Post reveiw posts and comment posts only, (no more pics of any kind)
- Take precaution in being 'too' critical of other maps/mappers/programs one way or another
- Avoid trying to 'outdo' other reviewers
- Remember that your words will be blasted around the internet and will be a reflection of the Cafe'
- Have fun!
and B. Posting a new thread in a forum called The Q2 Cafe's Quarterly Mapping Showcase every 3 months that could mirror the above forum concept. This would contain maps that were not speed maps.. this certainly includes for any map that even took 6 months! ..this map would just hit whatever Showcase was next when they got thru! see? . . . . . ...other guidelines.... (posted somewhere.. or not..) Guidelines for Q2 Cafe' Head Rep (Le Ray):- Keep an open mind
- Act as Executive Director for all activites
- Organize and post all info/media as planned/scheduled
- Keep track of all info/media in general
- Act as 'format police' as far as all submissions and postings go
- Remember that your art and words will be blasted around the internet and will be a reflection of the Cafe'
- Have fun!
The idea is that this will hopefully automate itself after it gets going. Copy/pasting a customized format for each new thread should make this a lot simpler than it may look above. I hope so anyways. Use the stuff I made above and alter it in any way to make it better. I know I am not thinking of something probably, but that's what the first couple of these events will ultimately serve as - learning and improvement as things are discovered. As long as mapper's turn in maps, they will fall into one of the two categories though I guess.. lol.. The links to this info should be well received by the Q2 community. other ideas--- -In each new thread of the month, make each mapper's name link to the mapper's website (or preferred link to a profile somewhere on the net) After it gets going well, see if PlanetQuake will link permanently these two new forums somehow somewhere.. hehe

AAAGGHHH!! ....that looks great! I think you are very close with your ideas and it's a great start. Maybe we can tweak it a little, but it looks really good to me. Here's the thing...I want to let the 5th mapping contest die down a little before we start this (maybe another week or two), but in that time, I'm going to create a new board for speed mapping. For now, the board will only be open to members of Clan Q2C and the mapping club. That way, we can get everything lined up before we open it to the public. We can all look at the setup and see if everyone agrees, make comments and changes where needed. Then we can open it up to the public. How does that sound?

I'll gladly take care of the boards and I would like someone in Clan Q2C to host the maps. I would need them to gather the maps and provide me with links and maybe screenshots. Is anyone in Clan Q2C interested in doing this every month?

I'll gladly take care of the boards and I would like someone in Clan Q2C to host the maps. I would need them to gather the maps and provide me with links and maybe screenshots. Is anyone in Clan Q2C interested in doing this every month? Well, all the mappers would send it all to you man I was thinking.. cutting redundant steps out... When they are finished, they send: One email containing: -If it is a 'speed' map or not -A properly zipped map with .txt file -3 pics (the mapper's 3 fav screenshots of their work/s, each clearly named) -A short description of their work -The mapper's preferred link from their name so there is no gathering.. no time wasted doing what the mappers could do better and quicker than anyone else (3 highlighting screenshots)... You would actually need to create and forward the zip of all maps to the hoster maybe as the very FIRST thing you do after you receive all maps of the month. Then, go make a cool post about the maps with all the info, pics, and links. ...remember, this format will be copy/ pasted forever.... tweaked at any time... ...there could be a continuous flow of standardized emails that you should be able to take and whip into a master post of each month with relative ease... every 30 days, you take what you got... zip them all together... send them to the hoster...(hoster sends download link back asap) ..then you immediatley make the cool monthly screenshot thread/post/page by hosting all the screenshots with Photobucket and putting them in order that you received them... hehe

Heeeeeey, somebody (like Whirlingdervish) could even make a Q2 Cafe' Map Submission Form that works the same basic way that Judges panel did!
That way, they'll send in all the required info every time like clockwork!!!

WD...some of those cons can be worked to everyone's advantage. Hear me out... Let's say everyone jumps into this head first...making maps in much less time. What inevitably happens is everyone will learn the editors better, become more efficient, get rid of ideas that are too "iffy" and time consuming to worry about. In esence, many of us would become more efficient and better mappers. In learning from what you have done with the speed mapping, you can apply those techniques to other maps you would want to take your time with. Just my $.02 Sounds reasonable. In theory, this showcase style event should give us quite a bit of motivation to develop more efficient techniques to use in-editor, and it should give us lots of practice at streamlining our ideas into the most effective and simple designs that we can.. Considering the limitations of the engine that we all make maps for, this can't be a bad thing. It'll definitely reinforce the K.I.S.S. rule.. (Keep It Simple Stupid!) As long as we remember to keep our criticism constructive, this will undoubtedly be a worthwhile learning experience.
