I'm trying to add sound to a "Moving Platform". It doesn't seem to be working. They have a blank for adding sound and I'm adding the path for the sound file, however, there is no sound in the map. Anyone know how this works? Am I missing something?

You mean the noise field? That doesn't work in stock Q2 because of an engine bug- the looped sound's position isn't updated with the movement of the func_train. KMQuake2 fixes this, of course

Hello knightmare, I mean the sound that you link to the moving platform. In tread, you have a sound path that you can add to your moving platform. Which I think means that as the platform passes by you, you should hear a sound. However, even though I put a sound path in the blank, no sound can be heard. I guess this is what you're talking about. Guess I can always just put soundplayers along the path of the platform. Thanks for the reply.

If you were doing something with the Lazarus mod, you could use a target_playback and have it move with the platform- I've seen this done at least once. But this would only work in single player, as it uses direct calls from the game DLL to FMOD.
There may be other engines that fix this bug besides mine (probably Q2E).
But it should be reasonable nowadays to expect Q2 players to be running an improved engine that has a certain minimum set of improvements/fixes. Q2 3.20 doesn't even work in multitexture mode on modern video cards!

Looking at the fix that I made (apparently just for bmodels without origin brushes), the looped sound should work in stock Q2 if the platform has an origin brush.
You'll want to use an updated BSP compiler with the texture alignment fix for origin brush bmodels if you do this.

Isn't there a train in the main game that moved along a sort of X/Z path? Did its chain sound follow it? I can't recall.

You mean in the maps train and mine4? AFAIK, the sound only played when the func_train hit a path_corner.
