I set Worldspawn to 10) Space (drop-down menu )and set the texture to the purple sky but it still compiles with Base1 I tried an outside skybox, using both skies in the environment folder, and combinations of everything and I cannot get the skybox to change!

What editor are you using? Should be easy as entering sky, and then entering the env name.

I'm sorry, I am using QuArK. I don't know what the problem is, perhaps it's a side effect of Nem's Terrain generator, or I could be just out of ram.

I dunno quark but you can simply edit the .map with a text editor, takes a sec.
First lines look similar to this, just adapt the "sky" line:

Well, I copy+pasted everything to a new map file and now it works. Go figure
