Hi, I'd like to edit a Quake 2 texture, it is in .wal format. I hate Wally and I'd like to work in PS or Gimp. What's the best way to do this? I searched for a wal plugin but the only one I found was for PS 4 (no, not CS4 but 4.) So I tried to export the wal to jpg using Wally (version 1.55b), edit in in PS and then convert it back to .wal using Wally. This totally screwed the colors though: 2 shows my edited texture as a jpeg in PS, 1 shows what it looks like after converting it to wal with Wally (yes, the surrounding texture is the original one). What did I do wrong? (I also tried to save the palette of the original texture and then reload it before conversion in Wally, the result is 3. ) Which programs do you use to export and edit wal textures?

I don't like to bump threads but I'll do it this time because I'm quite sure that someone in here knows a good answer...

It's always a good idea to keep the same palette while doing anything with Q2 textures.

I didn't intend to change it. All I did was export, edit, re-import => image f**ked.
Then I tried open, save palette, edit, import, load old palette => image *really* f**ked.
Maybe I should export to something else than jpeg?

Maybe I should export to something else than jpeg? Indeed, preferably something that will keep the palette.

Try exporting to PCX instead.
EDIT: Doesn't seem to work with Wally 1.55b under XP 64-bit. It gives an all-black image with an all-black palette. Attempting to do a wal->pcx batch conversion crashes Wally.
I've done this before, under Win2000. I'll give it a try soon under XP 32-bit.

PNG works, keeps the pallette and the overall image intact.

Yeah, I noticed (and I also noticed the black image with pcx).
