It's just the effect of compounded roundoff errors caused by the client sending movement updates as integers to the server, which converts them to floating-point. Float values get rounded down in the absolute sense, which means that negative values are rounded up. The extent of these errors varies by client framerate. If you have your client framerate set too high (200+ fps), you won't be able to walk in a straight line, but will curve to either side.
