Is it better to use one func timer for multiple targets, or should each have its own? - for instance splash and smoke effects Also, how do you know how many entities you have and what is a safe number? Thanks in advance, -DD

The question is, do you want different timing for the multiple targets, or identical timing? There is no inherent problem with one entity targeting many others.
Quark should have a menu option to show an entity and brush count like Radiant does.
It's generally a good idea to not go over 900 entities in your map (not counting things like info_nulls and non-targeted lights that are removed at spawn). There's a hard limit of 1024 server-side entities in vanilla Q2 that applies to things created at runtime like players, bots, projectiles, door/plat triggers, runes, etc. Things like blaster/bullet impacts and explosions are client-side and don't count.

It seems that Quark doesn't have this menu option... or maybe I just can't find it. It would be nice to know these things.
Thanks for all the info knightmare. I do have some effects that can share the same timer. I was just worried about spreading them out too far.
