I know there are around 15 or so Map Editors. I am looking for one that will allow me to see what my changes look like. I HATE using ones that would have me "guess" what it looks like behind wireframe or some box. Also one that can be used by someone with no real experience. P.S. Also, one that doesn't require 3D Card like radiant. (That was a very stupid idea, as Quake does NOT use 3D cards to play!!)

Besides, pretty much everything has hardware acceleration these days, and almost nobody will bother with software rasterizing when the former is almost universally available. And QERadiant 1.47 even gives you a preview (Crl+A) of the movement of doors/plats/etc. There's also the really old Worldcraft 1.6 which is now abandonware, I think it had a software preview window: my.opera.com/S-Priest/blog/worldcraft

Its a dam conspiracy! I have this Computer: dell6400.webs.com/ Of course my card isn't 'supported' by Radiant etc. I thought for sure you were or someone was going to point me to a Q1/Q2 editor. I've used Qoole Editor and forgot how to use it. LOL- I remember my first map well. All the enemies kept falling from the sky and through the floor. (What a mess!) I should of called it STROGGS IN SPACEThen I started another one in which the hazards were your way out. (You had to walk through hazards that are normally deadly) Yet only certain ones were safe. Then some compiling error happened. GRRRR! SO I canned the map idea since. After DL another map maker called FPS CREATOR. (Have you ever tried it?) Its not for quake but its VERY EZ to make maps, scripts etc. You can preview your wrok at ANY stage. I became very frustrated with trying to find THE EDITOR. I would hear its this one-that one or that one is BEST. This is why the Leray Source is the best place afterall. My laptop was $600+ when all others were $350-$475 in 2010. You'd think I could get a 3D Video Card.. NOPE! Well the forces are afraid of me making maps I suppose. I have the editors from here: thepiratebay.sx/torrent/8030181/Quake_1-_Quake_2-_Quake_3_Editor_Collection Perhaps I'll start with a Q1/Q2 until I stop Upgrading my Laptop I so much like. Thanks for the input Knighmare! I am happy to hear WC 1.6 has a preview window!

Like Quake 2- you have that OPTION to Run or Not run in certain video modes. I don't see any rational in a dam editor REQUIRING a 3D card is all. Well, I am getting ready to commit some atrocity!

I've seen one of those Dell E1505/6400 model laptops before, it had a mobile Radeon X1400 and ran Q2 passably in OpenGL mode. If you paid $600 for one without a discrete card in 2010, you got ripped off. Always check the specs! Even if it only has crap Intel integrated graphics, you can get a non-integrated graphics motherboard (if it lacks the mini-AGP slot) and a (proprietary) discrete card for that model off eBay and install it yourself. I've upgraded the discrete graphics on two different Dell Inspiron models that way. In the case that it's a mobile Radeon, you probably won't be able to use the ATI drivers for desktop cards, and the mobile variants provided by Dell are always woefully out of date. The Omega Drivers are your best bet. All Radiant needs is a simple OpenGL ICD, and even Intel provides those for XP with their integrated graphics. Does it just run really slow, or did you not tun on the "camera preview" function? Also, if Radiant crashes when you open the Help->About dialog, you'll need to find the driver setting for the OpenGL extension limit, and enable it for Radiant.exe (unlikely for the GPUs available in a 2006 model laptop, as this only started happening with new drivers in September 2009). It's got the same buffer overflow vulnerability as Q2 3.20.

I noticed it seems to have issues when one doesnt use 'typical' quake file paths even though it asks for a new one. IDK- maybe it needed a restart of PC? Shall see 4 sure!

I have only used QERadiant 1.47 and GTK-Radiant (the radiant family of editors covers a large number of games, so using one across all of the Quake series, Half-Life and Doom 3 was a huge plus!). I have dabbled a bit with other editors, but I always return to Radiant based editors.

Here is what Card my DELL 6400 came with. (Site is closed to excess band width usage) Maybe it wont be when you check it. dell6400.webs.com There were 2 cards that will only fit. I have the LOWER one. You had the other one I suppose. I paid $120 for the Laptop. ALL I know is a friend showed up on a bicycle with it tied to the back. It had all kinds of research stuff on it. It had medical dish photos on it. Funny thing he never got the password.. HMMMM SO I just ran it and opened up a Admin account. (Back door on XP!!) Then I wiped it clean. So, I think I can run a GL Mode but has NO 3D support on the card. It WONT load certain games. Ahh! Wolfenstein Castle it WONT run cause of the 3D demand. It gives a GL Error. I wanted a new card with RAM on it but ours is no different in that matter. Its like people screaming for us to get a HD camera on youtube. BUY US ONE THEN!! WTF its ONLY a 8 minute video. What kind of person watches a man bulllshit on a HD TV for 3 minutes? YIKES! Where is that Laptop now ? The 6400?

I only see mention of one video card on that site, the integrated Intel one.
Can you post the actual name of yours that shows up in Device Manager?
