Ok, so in my journey to becoming a mapper and learning through trail an error what works and what doesn't. Btw, I don't know why I thought it was going to be easy hahaha ( ugh learning curves can suck at times ), kudos to all the mappers out there that have been doing this for years, what I wouldn't give to have one of you guru's sitting in a rm with me for about 24hrs showing me some tips tricks and shortcuts, ..oh there have been a few frustrating moments haha. Having fun though and a very worthy journey it is, things are starting to click now, progress is slow but steady Anyhow, I noticed something from all the maps, textures ect I have been trying out and I want to know if I am delusional or not. Can certain textures change the physics play of a map, I have noticed with some of the texture I have dl'd for inspiration that when I go into the game and check them out my in movement physics in effected. The best way I can describe it is on some maps/textures my mouse tightens up and the physics is amazing and then on others I have to go into the consol and adjust a bunch of stuff because my mouse/physics is just loose as hell. Is it possible to make a map feel heavy or light and change the physics by how a map is designed/put together, ...comments anyone???

Many Q2 textures have different surface/content flags set by default. The only ones that actually affect movement physics are the slick and current_* flags. But those only affect player movement, not monsters or anything else in the world.

Yeah...Knightmare is right. Some textures can have different surface properties, sometimes referred to as "flags". The gravity, however, CAN be adjusted in the worldspawn. This is how some maps, especially space themed maps, have floatier physics.
The best way to learn is 3-fold: work daily with the editor, read all you can about the game engine and the editor you are using and ASK plenty of questions!

Yo thanks for the extra info, ..I've been thinking about doing a spaced themed map down the road once I get this main map I'm working on completed as those that I have played, I've quite enjoyed, I've got all kinds of "whacked" out ideas for different types of level designs that I would like to bring forth to the community. However, bringing something new stylish into the scene means working extra hard at it to make sure it will work + being a newish mapper in the sense of actually making them does add some extra pressure to the whole goal/success factor. Like I said I'm enjoying the journey, it does push the mind and that is where the fun factor is for me. Good advice to any new mapper, ..as for me I have no problems asking questions and when I do it def means I am stuck on something and looking for help. I remember what it was like to be a noob waaaaaaay back in the day and I do try to be aware of that as much as I can when someone starts asking me questions in a field I am specialized in/at. However to many questions just means "the noob" is not putting the time and effort in on their own, self motivation is a big thing to me if I'm gonna take someone under my wing. Me, I enjoy the, " Holy shit I figured it out factor !!!" ...I am constantly scouring the internet for information to get my Quake'n mind back to where it use to be. ..if only I could get my aim back hahahaha!!! Its all FINALLY coming back slowly but surely and things are clicking again at the good ol deeper levels where the mind use to be when it came to this game. Anyhow I kinda rambled, nice to know there is still a group of people online in the Quaking community that have that old school mentality of brotherhood.
