1. KMQ2 is not currently supported on Windows 8, as I am unable to test compatbility. Also make sure that Quake2 isn't installed under C:\Program Files (x86), but under a path will full user write access (like C:\Quake2).
2. Maxclients can't exceed 4 in coop because all maps that support coop only have 4 coop starts.
3. KMQ2 uses its own unique server protocol (version 56) due to increased limits and new entity fields. THIS CAN'T BE CHANGED. Server browsers may ignore KMQ2 servers because of this.
4. I forgot to check that cvar when downloading from vanilla Q2 servers. It will be fixed in the next update.
5. HTTP downloading is on my todo list.

I'm running Win8.1 64-bit and MKQ2 doesn't have issues for me, but I keep my Q2 content under "c:\games\quake2". I also downloaded the code and that runs good for me too, so I'd imagine his issues could be the other ones you said.

hi knightmare macanah here is there neway u could alter the protocol for servers which use kmquake2, so any version of quake2 are compatable with a server which uses kmquake2 for server
clients like - q2pro - r1q2 and even mac clients
if u make this protocol change for kmquake2 im sure it would b quite popular cause u have features like more max editcs with kmquake2
ok thats all bye from macanah

It would involve removing almost all of KMQ2's original core server-side features (increased coordinate range, increased MAX_MODELS, MAX_SOUNDS, MAX_IMAGES, more HUD slots, near-immunity to overflows, new entity state fields, etc), so it's not gonna happen.
Besides, clients connecting to such a hypothetical server with only MAX_EDICTS increased will have to have been compiled with an identical MAX_EDICTS value to avoid parsing errors when the server has more entities than the original limit.
You should just use an R1Q2 dedicated server if you want compatibility with all Q2 clients.
