np sk3l3tor. i am especially using those Quake 3 textures lately. they are supposed to be high res textures, so i use them that way: scaled down to half their size on the brushes. following the laws of geometry this gives you 4 times as many pixels on each face and therefore much more closeup-quality. another welcome sideeffect is that the lightmap that affects a face with a texture scale of 0.5 has also a resolution twice as high, so the edges of the shadows become much less jaggy. just try it, you'll see. downside: qbsp will create much more polys when compiling the map, this is to take into consideration. but i have created large, open arenas that mainly utilized high res textures, and the average r_speeds still remained 400-500, so there was room for much more details left. my conlusion was that the performance loss from the use of high res textures is more than justifiable. just follow the basic rules of vis blocking and you're fine.

this Martha Stewart comment was really humorous. caused definitely no harm. Jester is da master server don't work you say ? it's this "500 internal error ..... no available PASV ports" thing I guess ?? yes, this server does have some issues. it's not my server, I only got an account there. seems like you get that when there is too much traffic. only workaround: trying again later, next day, etc. finally it will work again. always did
