I actually thought I had posted this yesterday!? Anywho, since I can't find it I'll just post it again. I haven't had the motivation to do a new map since the last one so I think a mapping contest would do the trick, besides I have always wanted a map of mine to be the map of the week on www.planetquake.com So what do you guys think?

Well, I can't map right now, but I think it's a great idea! I would like to see some of Clan Q2C do something like this. I think Q2 needs another mapping contest at this time.

as small as the last one was, it was still fun. I'd do a new one anytime.

I think we can discuss this more on the private Clan board. I thinks it's a great idea. I'll do my best to help out.

Umm, how can I be involved if discussions are held in private?

well, I believe that the private discussion will be to determine how we want to go about hosting this mapping contest... like who wants to be a "judge" and when the deadlines should be and such...
I'm pretty sure that the contest itself we be open to all entries as long as they are within the time limit and they follow the few guidelines that we decide on... like what MOD should it be optimized for, what kinda textures can we use and such....
And of course the thread for the contest itself will not be in the private area... it will go in the 'new maps' forum like all the other contests did...Its just easier to do some of the brainstorming in private so we don't get distracted or off-track..
We aren't gonna go out of our way to exclude you man. don't trip.
I dunno if I'll have time to, but I will try and get my act together and produce a map if we have a contest...

Yep, you are right and there will be a 4.th mapping contest thread as we had 1-2-and 3.th contest threads, iam sure. Wixen1

to answer Jes ... errh ... fi3nds question : when a contest was starting we always had a temporary forum for the contestants , the Contest Hangout.
the participants were always something like a "clan" of their own during the time of the contest, and could discuss contest related topics in this private forum. in the earlier phases of the contest this would also include basic guidelines for the contest itself, where decisions may be done by voting.
all participants would be part of the decision making process there.
does this answer the question, fi3nd ?

Jester, You will be able to participate in the contest. So will everyone else. I'm moving the discussion to the private area only so we can decide if the contest is something we can do and to go over all the details. Once we decide if this is something the Cafe' wants to host, we will let you and everyone else know the details. Thanks.

yes, but there shouldn't be much to discuss internally, I suppose. just if we will or will not make a contest. the answer is most likely yes, of course, but we will post a thread for submissions of contestants who want to join first, and the main condition for carrying out of the contest will be a sufficient number of people who want to participate. after that we start a Contest Hangout forum where all participants can meet and talk, and vote stuff.

we will post a thread for submissions of contestants who want to join first, and the main condition for carrying out of the contest will be a sufficient number of people who want to participate. participants and judges, of course. after we have the people we start the contest. restrictions like a specific theme for the maps or a texture set never worked out and were just a waste of time. it was never possible to find a consent about such restrictions. so most likely we will keep it the same way this time: a DEATHMATCH map for Quake 2 is the theme, make it as good as you can, the rest is up to you.

so millions of jump pads, teleporters that port you onto another teleporter, and wacky shootable button walls are all fair game? how about swirling hypnotic animated textures? and 50Mb of sound files? lol
