In case anyone is looking for these three (or one/two of them) anymore, you've probably googled for them and may not have found them all in one convenient location. paril.gaminggalaxy.net/qtests/They're all there. Qtest and Q2test are both zips with the files inside (no premade subdir). Q3test is a zip with an installer inside it. Maybe someone should sticky this so if anyone happens to cross here they can easily find them.. they aren't easy-to-find gems anymore -Paril

They are the pre-alpha test editions of each of the games, released publically normally a bit after the previous game in the series (or Doom, in Quake's case) was released.

Is there any reason in particular that someone would even want a pre-alpha test version of the game(s)?

maybe to observe the trends in their evolution from unfinished products to the heavily modded/patched games that we have today..

Basically, yep.
Every good Quake player has played all three of these. Even to just study the differences between them.
What I hated about Q2Test is that, oddly enough, either the pak format was a bit different because if you re-saved pak0 (with NOTHING changed inside) you get an initialization error, or it checks for the MD5 of the pak, but you couldn't change it. You could view it and get the sounds from it (which everyone should go look at, there's some weird sounds in there), though.
