Wd.. lmao Hey man, do you think it is possible to make a map submission form like that judges panel you made that could have a box each for submitting: ------------- _____________________________ Q2 Cafe' Map Submission FormUse this form to submit a new Speed map (made and submitted within 30 days) to the Q2 Cafe'! All fields are required.- Map type: (e.g. deathmatch or whatever)
[box]
- Level Name: (title of project)
[box]
- Map Name: (e.g.. mymap.bsp)
[box]
- Mapper's Name/Alias:
[box]
- Mapper's homepage or preferred site url:
[box]
- Short project description: (1-3 sentences)
- *Mapper's contact email:
[box]
- Zip file containing your map and read me .txt file:
[box] w/a Browse button
Screenhots are to be 640x480 and named according to map name. (e.g. mymap1.jpg, mymap2.jpg, and mymap3.jpg.. or mymapa.jpg, mymapb.jpg, and mymapc.jpg)
- screenshot#1 [box] w/a Browse button
- screenshot#2 [box] w/a Browse button
- screenshot#3 [box] w/a Browse button
*Your contact email will not be posted online with the rest of your information. Rather, it will serve as a timely way to reply that your map has been received.NOTE: Please recheck entire form for errors and completeness before clicking Submit button below. Click Submit only once and do not use your back button. You will be taken to another page after the submission is complete. --------------------------------------------[Submit]------------- ...when the submission is completed, it could even be so that the map submitter is taken to a similar page that says "Thanks for submitting a new Q2 map! Rock on!" or whatever.. in the middle.. with a link back to the Cafe'.. (e.g. here's a silly little page I whipped out one day that submitter's are taken to when they click Submit on our How to join BOD page, lol.. www.bringersofdeath.org/joinboddefaultpage.htm ) ..maybe it could basically say: ---------- Thanks for submitting your map at the Cafe', and be sure to catch when it comes out for reviews! ----------------------------------- ---------- ..btw, where you see Mapper's contact email: that doesn't have to be included into the accompaning screenshots; rather, it would serve as an instant way to reply that the mapper's map has successfully been received! ..that's what I would do anyway. Can anybody out there make a form like this? I would do it but I have to use a webpage builder to do everything.. it sux.. I only have 7 fonts to choose from, for example.. lol.. wtf?.. most importantly, there isn't any option for forms except to forward simple data entry as far as I know.. or I would have already made this for yall! ..if we can get it done.. maybe make the whole background black.. have Cafe' colors in it... trim the boxes in yellow.. words in red... or vice-versa!.. Cafe' logo on it even! ..etc

Also, the showcase, would this be the most popular maps of the last 3 months? I don't want to keep on and on so much I swear, so yall forgive me, especially you Le Ray.. but in this case what you could do one day if u wind up having time, (I feel a tomato coming on, lmao), is just simply pick any Q2 map from the last 10 years.. any new map, old map, or map that has a 'purpose' to be shown (e.g., highlighting any combination of techniques of any kind, color schemes, skies, terrain, models, jump pads, cool creations veiwed in an IWM map, etc) and post that in a Le Ray's Q2 Map of the Month or Spotlight Forum, (or leave your name out) If you called it The Q2 Cafe's Mapping Spotlight, you wouldn't have to do it once a month like clockwork ..maybe even rotate everyone for this! ..weekly? ..for this forum, maybe you could standardize each new thread this way: "The Q2 Cafe's Mapping Spotlight periodically spotlights Q2 maps, mapping techniques, color schemes, skies, terrain, models, jump pads, cool creations, etc. Feel free to put this map on your server and/or lend any comments in a pros/cons/suggestions format below. Only post comment-type posts. (no pics of any kind please)"(AAAGGHHH!! ducks a big ass flying tomato from Le Ray, lmao) More work I know!... but seems pretty neat.. ..this can take the place of "most popular maps' kind of thing here on the Cafe'.. which I do not recommend.... (annoying polls.. more competing would come in before you knew it) ..to avoid complicated map picking, just pick a map... make however many screenshots you need/want.. as big as you want... spotlight it in the Map of the Month Forum similar to the other two forums... ..seems silly but it will work.... who's gonna complain? No one should ever expect you to pick whatever map to talk about, and should already understand that this kind of particular forum can be a nice addition if kept simple. The other forums are all the mappers and reviewers. You just post what the mappers send every month in the same format.. then people do reviews! I kinda wish we didn't want to do a monthly thing for new maps myself, but oh well... lol... as long as it doesn't burn us out damn... heck, make sure you include one of YOUR maps like once a year, highlighting whatever! You make some kick ass maps! Anyone crying about what map you put in the spotlight would just be a big titty baby, in my opinon, as this Forum would be for the Cafe' more than for individual mappers' sakes. lmao.. This forum would just basically rotate decent to awesome Q2 maps, where they can be spotlighted and/or commented on by any that may see it and have time. It will be easier, of course, if we can split the workload of any of these new ideas/forums whereever possible, and it would be nice to see some more pros/cons/suggestions from more people about any of it. If you guys ever do work on projects together, the spotlight forum would be THE place to spotlight them when completed! (ducks again)

Also, the showcase, would this be the most popular maps of the last 3 months? The way I've been thinking, this extravaganza/showcase thing is only for new maps man. They've never been seen before by the public (or us). ..maybe there will be 5 maps this time for the Showcase, mabey 2 next time.. maybe 7 for the Extravaganza this month.. maybe 1 next month... etc.. I haven't thought of anything that will matter too much in that way really yet... I think that they should continue seperately from one another. Meaning, Le Ray simply directs the info, maps, and screeshots one way or another every 30 days. Using two zip files. He would wind up making these new standardized threads of screesnhots in both forums every 90 days. hopefully.. consequently.. i guesss... I would concentrate on new maps myself man!

Le Ray, as ideas have come, I have added to the huge color coded post on page 2 here to maybe accommodate more than the last time you seen it. sry.. hehe.. I had it open for like 3 hours this morning before i clicked Modify Post.. lmao... It has changed since guys you last seen it I am sure, and I feel like it may be closest yet!! Please take a look at that insanely color coded outline again and maybe alter any of your recent posts if u see any new ideas that will help! I will not edit in that post anymore from here on out. lol.. Sorry! I last edited it at 12:35am April 26th cst.. Yes I know I personalized that guideline stuff style alot, but feel absolutely free to copy any of it exactly as you want man. Bullets and all, I recommend, to make it more compact! All I can hope is that you believe that I did that just in case you wanted to copy it! It's all good. It's really no different that simply imitating what you see/read on the net, so I'm never worried about that kind of stuff personally at all. I also recommend once it takes off.. to delete all this anyways.. lmao...

another guideline idea.. after yall make these two new forums, (Extravaganza and Showcase), the only thing you should allow in each killer new thread of new zip file/screenshots each month, is either a review post or a comment post.
no more screenshots of any kind.. no captures of some design on your desktop.. nothing like that in these threads ever..
..if you feel like you must, maybe link to more info rather than flood the new threads with an onlslaught of more pics and crap that would complicate forum veiwing/reviewing tremendously... keep that stuff separate and in the correct places at all costs...
In THESE standardized forums, the focus should stay on THESE maps or THESE screenshots, and reviewing... until next month... etc..
Remember these new forums will be game for newbie's or non-regulars from anywhere to comment also and their comments would mix right in with all the reveiws from any of the reviewers.

Heeeeeey, somebody (like Whirlingdervish) could even make a Q2 Cafe' Map Submission Form that works the same basic way that Judges panel did!
That way, they'll send in all the required info every time like clockwork!!!

I'll gladly take care of the boards and I would like someone in Clan Q2C to host the maps. I would need them to gather the maps and provide me with links and maybe screenshots. Is anyone in Clan Q2C interested in doing this every month? Well, all the mappers would send it all to you man I was thinking.. cutting redundant steps out... When they are finished, they send: One email containing: -If it is a 'speed' map or not -A properly zipped map with .txt file -3 pics (the mapper's 3 fav screenshots of their work/s, each clearly named) -A short description of their work -The mapper's preferred link from their name so there is no gathering.. no time wasted doing what the mappers could do better and quicker than anyone else (3 highlighting screenshots)... You would actually need to create and forward the zip of all maps to the hoster maybe as the very FIRST thing you do after you receive all maps of the month. Then, go make a cool post about the maps with all the info, pics, and links. ...remember, this format will be copy/ pasted forever.... tweaked at any time... ...there could be a continuous flow of standardized emails that you should be able to take and whip into a master post of each month with relative ease... every 30 days, you take what you got... zip them all together... send them to the hoster...(hoster sends download link back asap) ..then you immediatley make the cool monthly screenshot thread/post/page by hosting all the screenshots with Photobucket and putting them in order that you received them... hehe

Ok.. hmmmmm.. what about this.. someone (like Le Ray, respectively), could be in charge of: A. Posting a new thread in a forum called The Q2 Cafe's Monthly Speed Mapping Extravaganza every last or first day of the month, and could include: - A standardized short intro and concept of the Extravaganza (e.g... "The Q2 Cafe's Monthly Mapping Extravaganza includes new Q2 maps, (below), that were created within a strict 30 day time limit and submitted to the Q2 Cafe' for feedback and review. Feel free to put these maps on your server and/or post any comments in a pros/cons/ or suggestions format below. (no pics of any kind please!")
- A zip file of all speed maps (hosted by Cafe')
- 640x480 screenshots, (3 per map), w/Level name, Map name, Mapper's name, and a short (1-3 lines) description of the project from each mapper to go with each map
- A short outro after the last map's last screenshot with info linked on how to submit or review maps (e.g.. "To learn how to submit maps for review, or how to become a Q2 Cafe' Reviewer, click here." (links to initial thread that has been created in each of the new forums called Q2C Guidelines for submitting or reviewing new Q2 maps) where you will see:
Guidelines for Mappers:Follow instructions at this link <insert link to Q2C Map Submitting Form> to submit maps - Keep an open mind
- Use whatever you want
- Create like you want to, but don't set unrealistic goals
- Work to the deadlines (monthly, quarterly, or both)
- Help other mappers when possible (reviewing, testing, program tips, sharing artwork, lending solid advice, etc)
- Avoid trying to 'outdo' other mappers
- Remember that your art and words will be blasted around the internet and will be a reflection of the Cafe'
- Have fun!
Guidelines for Map Reviewers:- Keep an open mind
- Review each map as timely as possible and provide feeback in a pros/cons/suggestions format.
- Post reveiw posts and comment posts only, (no more pics of any kind)
- Take precaution in being 'too' critical of other maps/mappers/programs one way or another
- Avoid trying to 'outdo' other reviewers
- Remember that your words will be blasted around the internet and will be a reflection of the Cafe'
- Have fun!
and B. Posting a new thread in a forum called The Q2 Cafe's Quarterly Mapping Showcase every 3 months that could mirror the above forum concept. This would contain maps that were not speed maps.. this certainly includes for any map that even took 6 months! ..this map would just hit whatever Showcase was next when they got thru! see? . . . . . ...other guidelines.... (posted somewhere.. or not..) Guidelines for Q2 Cafe' Head Rep (Le Ray):- Keep an open mind
- Act as Executive Director for all activites
- Organize and post all info/media as planned/scheduled
- Keep track of all info/media in general
- Act as 'format police' as far as all submissions and postings go
- Remember that your art and words will be blasted around the internet and will be a reflection of the Cafe'
- Have fun!
The idea is that this will hopefully automate itself after it gets going. Copy/pasting a customized format for each new thread should make this a lot simpler than it may look above. I hope so anyways. Use the stuff I made above and alter it in any way to make it better. I know I am not thinking of something probably, but that's what the first couple of these events will ultimately serve as - learning and improvement as things are discovered. As long as mapper's turn in maps, they will fall into one of the two categories though I guess.. lol.. The links to this info should be well received by the Q2 community. other ideas--- -In each new thread of the month, make each mapper's name link to the mapper's website (or preferred link to a profile somewhere on the net) After it gets going well, see if PlanetQuake will link permanently these two new forums somehow somewhere.. hehe

Sounds good Le Ray and WD. but I really can't see a monthly thing as the way to go strictly myself. The people who do not care for small maps or who like creating something more elaborate, can just turn theirs in for the next 'Showcase'... besides, all you guys know how hard it is to find time for your hobbies!!!!! IT's really hard!!!!.. I have no idea how I would keep up with reviewing every map that comes out myself. I mean dang, if it's every month!!! I do all kinds of stuff and never have a schedule really. Perhaps some of you are like that... etc.. seperate from a monthly "Maniac Mapper's Spotlight" perhaps. lmao.. How many of you want to make a map a month? Every month? hehe Why not speed map all you want and turn in all your maps for a 3 month period? Time is not on my side for much more input atm, sry. I cant keep up with the new posts at this forum as well as I'd like, and I am about to be around less as things come up.. very static time with this computer after today for a while... but, I wouldn't limit anything ever myself, especially limiting textures in any way. Some of you may throw tomatoes at me for saying that, (or other stuff here at the Cafe'), but it just doesn't make sense to me to ever limit anything in art. Why would anyone ever come up with something like that? ...I just don't understand that yet guys. Help me out. But I sorta have been planning to like.. Finalize and make it all up as if it was my project alone, then just blurt it all out. This all may seem like I want it all "my way" or whatever, but the reality is that all I, or anyone else could hope for, is a really "good" way to do it. A way that works for the community, complements the artwork, and most fairly streamlines the work. Not to say that anyone does, but who cares who came up with what, and all that. All that will be forgotten after so long and it doesn't matter anyway. yes I do believe with a few guidelines for reviewers mappers and the Cafe' ..it should be able to be pulled off easier after like the first one... tweak it after that.. I have so much to do tho and cannot be around much right now. ...will read u guys' ideas as I can and will plan/create as much as I can, and will report back asap. So far tho, I would just take the points I was talking about and list them out. Then, strike them down one by one with a better answer. Or, use them all and add to it. Man I been on this computer for days now. I got mega stuff to do now. lol Good luck with yall's ideas!
