Depending on where you're from, you may have seen this game about 14 years ago, with one of 2 titles:
XCOM: UFO DEFENSE (USA) or
UFO: ENEMY UNKNOWN (Europe)
The first installment in the series is one of the most enjoyable turn-based combat/Strategy games I've ever played. Considering that I can still spend hours at it and come away totally happy.
The game puts you in the shoes of the high-commander of the entire world's anti-extraterrestrial-army..
Theres politics: keeping the governments of the world happy with you and paying you monthly.
Theres a HUGE research tree that includes aliens, alien corpses, weapons, ships, ship components, tanks, armor upgrades, mind control devices and all sorts of goodies.
Once researched you must have technicians at your base manufacture advanced weapons/items and you can resell them for profit to expand your "Army" or use the alien's guns against the little green bastards..
Your troops gain in stats and rank dependent on their performance in combat and you can even name them all after people you like/dislike... Equiping them is all up to you, down to the last grenade.
A large portion of the game is dedicated to overseeing the world on a global scale and shooting down any UFO that crosses the radar, then sending a squad and landing craft to sweep up the remains.... The actual combat on the ground is turn based and can take quit a while on larger craft and Terror Sites: Alien attacks on cities and resorts...
Overall I give this game a perfect 10 for hours of entertainment and constantly challenging my brain.
Its like the most kickass game of chess imaginable
You can probably DL the whole game off of this site
for free since its so damn old... finding a comp that will run it shouldn't be too hard... I think theyve got a modded version that works on newer OS..

(don't trip, Microprose, the company that made this series got bought out by Hasbro, who then trash- canned the rights to the series. What a loss.
XCOM 4 (Genesis) never got finished and never will be.)
