The Incubator by Le Ray Map Name: leray35 July 2009 leray35.bsp q2c.tastyspleen.net/maps/con_7/leray35.zipJudges scoresJudges comments:James[Q2C]:n/a Dervish:The architecture on this map reminded me of others I've seen from you, but with a subtle twist: this map is brimming with activity. The plethora of extra moving bits and bobs gives this map a life of its own. A solid effort here, but more work could have been done to insure that players could move easily from one strategically important area to another. I found it very hard to get out of the water by the railgun without rocketjumping or making a slow trick jump off the base of some of the large columns with lights. Spawn Girl:Cool map. Great work. Nice for the view, fun and original. Like all the maps of Leray this one have life. His particularly and endearing style is evolved and is visible here. Dont ask me why but this map remember me Jules Verne novels. The pool is a bit annoying. Wixen1 [Q2C]:n/a Mr. LemonyFresh:This map is quite fun to get around on. There are heaps of places to trick jump and the connectivity is for the most part good. I had to take you down a few pegs for the originality though, I've seen this style a lot in maric's maps, which is cool because i like his maps, but... yeh originality but overall, quite a fulfilling map, good fun, and fair design.

Just so you guys know, there are 2 ladders to get you out of the water. One leads you up on the incubator platform and the other leads you up to the teleporter platform from the water on the floor. Not sure if you noticed them. If you look closely in the second image, you can see the ladders.
Anyway, thanks for the comments.

I'm not a big fan of space/void maps, but I like all the moving stuff on this one. Together with the sounds it adds to the life and atmosphere of the map.
Item placement could have been better, especially the spot where the elevator takes you (were all the ammo in a row is) is quite dangerous and just calls for a powerful item.

"Not sure if you noticed them. If you look closely in the second image, you can see the ladders." yeh, but if you made them less subtle, it would have helped. I'd had put a light texture or some kinda bright texture along the rung brushes, if it were up to me. Not that i could manage a map in the first place my attention spam is way to short.

I thought this one kicked ass. I am a fan of the whole floating-in-space thing, and also of natural rocky areas in maps. This one had them both. Very fun to jump around on, and was a blast to play! I'll have to remember to put more twirly things in my maps Never did see the ladders from the water, but got out OK. Just barely noticed the ladder up the column to the Invulnerability.

There can never be enough space/void maps as far as I'm concerned.
You ought to expand on the whirli-gig/fan idea and build some kind of space based solar wind farm or some such. All the 'movement' you placed in the map adds life and atmosphere.
Good concept, nice work.

You know I started to put the orange light texture on the ladders, but for some reason I didn't. But I agree, it would have been better to make them more obvious.

Glad you liked it.
