What's your favorite / fastest method for making rocks that look great? Which tools (of which editor) do you use? 3-point-clipping? edge-tool? vertex editing mode? I am using this method and the vertex editing mode of NetRadiant. It works but it takes time.

This... nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=8And the process for my current dealio, .map1a (first import and adjustments) and .map1q (current mess) are pictured. There are existing iterations in between those two, when dealing with terrain/rocks...save save save! There's almost no limit (aside from engine constraints) to what you can do with triangles, practice and patience with the Q2 engine.

I also thought about using a terrain editor but those I tried can't make stuff like caves, overhanging ceilings etc because they generate the terrain more or less from 2D height maps. Of course you could rotate stuff in-game and put different pieces together but this won't make clean brushwork I guess.
Making prefabs and copying them from map to map is also something I started (the problem is I don't have much I can re-use atm, hehe. But I wanna get some practice anyways.)

I've had a closer look at that Terrain Generator you linked and it's really powerful. It speeds up the creation of large structures dramatically and there even is a cave tutorial on the website. Thanks for that link!

I've been thinking about either Nem's Terrain Generator, or some other one for Half-Life (maybe same one?). I really need a large asteroid for a deathmatch map.

I don't know about the HL ones but Nem's tool rocks. Try it, it's easy!

You said asteroid, I'll make you one of those too, I give you the rocky shell you do the rest, eh?
