... since Tastyspleen.net stole and published the contest maps on to their servers... Just out of curiosity.. When someone posts a link to a place where you can download something, doesn't that mean that this stuff is made public ? I personally haven't had time to set myself into this contest, and the maps from it, but wasn't the point of the public voting that people could download the maps, and play them, and then make a vote? I thought the whole point of the public voting thing was to let people play around with the maps, and test them a lot before they voted! And which other good ways can you do that than putting the maps on a server, and let people play them ? Uploading a map to the net, and expecting it to only be played on one server, and refusing other servers to use it, would be kinda pointless, if that's the case here.. I guess that's part of the reason why the contests here at q2cafe has judges to tests the map, and give them scores BEFORE the maps are even made public.. All in all, from looking at the pictures, it's some good looking maps, that deserves to be on servers where people can play them..

But TS.net uploaded the maps before they were finished, around 3 weeks before the contest was over and the voting was about to begin. That among other bad things, means that there is severel different versions of the maps out in public which is bad, as you know of course. The early release of some of the maps, not all yet finished, was for people to play them privately until the deadline. Well, done is done and it is time to move on.. -W1

Ahhh.. Ok, I see! Well, that's kinda ... Idiotic!
Not only does it "hurt" the contest, and the people running it.. it also affect the mapmakers.. I doubt that anyone wants his/her unfinished map being used, instead of the finished one, which were intended to be used.. So I guess it's more harsh against the mapmakers, than the people running the contest, but still pretty disrespectful against everyone!!..

True. But Laura showed up at Q2R a few times after that happened so I doubt that she took it too seriously. Maybe she's just enjoying life & summer, taking a small break from computer stuff.
I'll see whether I can catch her at FB.

I'm probably going to regret entering the discussion, but I can't help myself.
The maps that are on tastyspleen seem to be the latest releases of those maps, spirits release as of 12-31 and marics release as of 12-24.
No disrespect meant to the map makers or anyone else, the maps were uploaded to tastyspleen by a fan. Was going to upload all the maps myself.
I could still do that, should do it actually. Margaal's are all missing, and maybe re-uploading the others will overwrite any bad versions?
Thoughts?

Spreading the final versions of the maps is of course very welcome. We made them for the community and hope they get played! It would be cool if you re-upload them just to be sure. I think I fixed something after 12-31 (but I may not have changed the README). You can get the final versions of all the contest maps here.

Here you have what I and Laura recieved in an email Jan. 12th. almost 3 weeks before map deadline : The original image is still up here: img843.imageshack.us/i/screenshotqe.png/This was the email: From this person: I guess he was not a fan but a twisted little sickf**k. And I know for sure that at least Margaal indeed changed his maps severel times before the deadline. -W1

TS.net uploaded the maps before they were finished, around 3 weeks before the contest was over and the voting was about to begin. Salutations, Wixen and I have discussed this matter via email over the past couple days, and I don't want to needlessly prolong the discussion here on the forums. However, I do feel it's important to clarify that the situation regarding the inappropriate hosting of these maps was not brought to my attention until about three days ago, unfortunately. As I wrote to Wixen via email: It was a surprise to me yesterday, when it was brought to my attention that you had indicated the contest maps should NOT have been made available for public download. I am always excited to see new Q2 maps, and I make it as easy as possible for users to upload maps to our servers. However, it would certainly not be my intention to host maps against the authors' wishes. If it was inappropriate for these maps to be hosted on our server, I regret this matter was not brought to my attention sooner. * * * As such, I would like to apologize for any aggravation this incident has caused any individuals here. If something like this were to happen again, please don't hesitate to contact me about the matter as soon as possible. Thanks, quadz ( email:console@tastyspleen.net )

Got everything uploaded, with the exception of margaal's .chn files and maric's .arena files.
The q2-uploads account doesn't have the power to make folders, there is only the standard q2 layout. I didn't know where to stick them, so I put them in the 'maps' folder to at least have them somewhere.

That's good news.
I think the maps folder is the correct place for the chn files (they are waypoints I guess). The arena file is for kmq2 only I think, it's a feature borrowed from Q3A. If it also goes to the same place as in Q3A, it should go into baseq2/scripts/ but I'm not sure about that and people can put it there themselves I guess.

Thanks, Reflex. I want to make sure I get this right, and so I've been reviewing which of the files from your upload are completely new (did not yet exist in our repository), and which of the files would be updating/replacing already-existing files with new/different data. Of the files you just uploaded, I see only new maps, and no updates of existing maps. Does that seem correct? Here's a breakdown of the files from your upload which are new, vs. those which replace (and differ from) existing files: New: baseq2/maps/margaal12.bsp baseq2/maps/margaal12.bsp.override baseq2/maps/margaal12.chn baseq2/maps/margaal12.txt baseq2/maps/margaal13.bsp baseq2/maps/margaal13.chn baseq2/maps/margaal13.txt baseq2/maps/margaal14.bsp baseq2/maps/margaal14.bsp.override baseq2/maps/margaal14.chn baseq2/maps/margaal14.txt baseq2/maps/marics109.arena baseq2/maps/marics110.arena baseq2/maps/marics111.arena baseq2/maps/spirit2dm7.license.txt baseq2/maps/spirit2dm7.loc baseq2/players/soldierb/skin5.pcx baseq2/players/soldierb/skin5_i.pcx baseq2/sound/amb21.wav baseq2/sound/cavewater1.wav baseq2/sound/drip5.wav baseq2/sound/ghosts2.wav baseq2/sound/nightmare.wav baseq2/sound/underwater04.wav baseq2/textures/block01b.wal baseq2/textures/block01c.wal baseq2/textures/pvsep.wal baseq2/textures/r3_0.wal baseq2/textures/r3_3232ziba.wal baseq2/textures/r3_zibagreen.wal baseq2/textures/speedbz_l32yel.wal baseq2/textures/spirit2dm7/alt_q2rl_blum13_1.wal baseq2/textures/spirit2dm7/q2rl_blum13_1.walAlready existing, but different data: baseq2/env/mars_envdn.pcx baseq2/env/mars_envdn.tga baseq2/sound/drip1.wav baseq2/sound/water.wav baseq2/textures/deblu2.wal baseq2/textures/dered2.wal baseq2/textures/1sltex/sl48.wal baseq2/textures/1sltex/sl50.wal baseq2/textures/1sltex/sl65.wal baseq2/textures/bricks/b_cp_v18g.wal baseq2/textures/bricks/b_cp_v25.wal baseq2/textures/bricks/c_mf_v3c.wal baseq2/textures/bricks/s_sr_m12ab.wal baseq2/textures/common/li_sr_m19.wal baseq2/textures/e1u1/sky1.wal baseq2/textures/karr/b_sr_c26.wal baseq2/textures/karr/barrel_v2t.wal baseq2/textures/karr/barrel_v4.wal baseq2/textures/karr/bottle_c01.wal baseq2/textures/karr/bottle_c03.wal baseq2/textures/karr/box_sr_m6.wal baseq2/textures/karr/br_rc_v1a.wal baseq2/textures/karr/dr_st_m2.wal baseq2/textures/karr/dump_m4a.wal baseq2/textures/karr/fifties_dr2.wal baseq2/textures/karr/fridg4.wal baseq2/textures/karr/fridg4a.wal baseq2/textures/karr/light2a.wal baseq2/textures/karr/s_sr_m12ab.wal baseq2/textures/karr/w_sr_b16.wal baseq2/textures/karr/w_sr_b24.wal baseq2/textures/karr/w_sr_m4a.wal baseq2/textures/karr/w_sr_m6x.wal baseq2/textures/karr/wd_cp_v5.wal baseq2/textures/karr/wd_sr_c02.wal baseq2/textures/karr/wd_sr_m14.wal baseq2/textures/karr/wd_st_m4d.wal baseq2/textures/props/box_sr_m10.walA little surprised to see so many textures with the same names but different data than ones already in our repo. Thanks, quadz ( email:console@tastyspleen.net ) Thank you quadz, for making all this clear for everyone. And also thanks for the help, finding the violator. This person most likely, is also the one who made those fake Q2reloaded forums and the false/stolen identity at Proboards support board. All with stolen photos, avatars and identities just to make trouble in the Q2 scene. The incident has probably hurt the mappers the most and obviously the Q2reloaded contest. As for the Café goes, we only held the public voting as promissed, our goal is to promote new maps as you know. No harm done to the Café, though the hole thing is kinda sad, when some members of the TS forum make childish posts/threads about us. In the future, now we know each other, we will contact you sooner if something like this happens again, thanks. And yes, done is done, and no need to prolonge this discussion any longer, lets move on, and hopefully have a lot of new maps, also in the future. -W1 reference to members: quadz is the owner of Tastyspleen.net
