Thanks Null and Maar! But the dinosaur has wandered into a tar pit and succumb to the depredations of time and neglect. What I'm trying to say is that the old PC pictured has given up the ghost. My mapping future is in serious doubt now. I may need to pull out before things even get started. It things turn out that way, I'd be happy to be a judges if that's wanted or needed. Or try QeRadiant or GtkRadiant 1.6.4? The latter is known to work on Win7 / Win8.

Tread3d is great due to it's consistent snap workflow and accurate results. And if I recall correctly I was able to run Tread3d on all windows platforms including 2000, XP, 7 and 8. I've had a few crashes on Win 8 64bit, when importing in the wrong order, but other than that it worked for me. There are now also many attractive alternatives, including Trenchbroom V2 which as of recently has Quake 2 support. I found Trenchbroom to be very easy to learn and most compatible with someone who loves snap and solid accuracy. Kitsune is hooked on it as well, and along with fifthelephant they're mapping up a storm leray.proboards.com/thread/3588/editors-contest-mappers-use

Hullo, After much deliberation I've decided I'd like to give this a crack if you'll have me. I'm sort of a WorldCraft/Hammer type person so I've not done a lot of Q2 mapping but I'm going to try using TrenchBroom.
