(Now let's try this again)
I don't have a clue where to put items/weapons in maps for vanilla Quake2.
Could somebody give some few tips so that I don't screw it up completely?
- Keep on mapping!

Well, I would say just put them in areas that can be accessed without a hook. Spread them throughout the map evenly so the player doesn't have to run for a long time before he finds a weapon.
Also, you may want to look at some other great Q2 Maps and look at where they put each item.

My map "The Seeper" or "leray29" has a good weapon layout. Why don' t you check that one out?

Maybe a bit late, but i can give you some advise....,
- check the weapon and item load in q2dm1, try and keep a same amount off items and look and the weapon placement. pretty neat. -most ppl check other maps, and their placements. So check the most popular played maps, for their placements and amounts. -try not to go overboard when placing health and ammo. -try and be original and place your weapons and items like armor and health on criticle locations, preferably in a line off site for more parts of the map. -lay health and ammo in different routes of the map, this will ask a lot of time, as you must figure out, the easiest ways of routes, also the fast routes.
I think with these things in mind, you could get a nice choice of placements....
