Anything going on? I'm working on my little Q2 Unit, also switching editor from QuArk to Radiant but that is a slow process..

I've actually been working on a Quake II unit myself, but so far I've only completed the first map. There'll be at least one more and possibly another.
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one! I loved your Western Pipeline and Nuclear Water Facility levels, and I'm definitely looking forward to more.

Working on getting all my DM maps completed. I have about 4 needing to be translated from sketch to brushwork. Going good so far as I have a big prefab mapfile that I craft all my tunnel pieces in and make them func_group entites in Radaint and then just copy the segments into my maps. Makes things way easier. Shouldn't be too long til it's done hopefully...unless I get OCD about it and start again...

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one working in the void as well Making a unit is tough MaRiNe, I've done 3 environments/maps but I have'nt populated them yet, going for 4 maps and that's it! Looking forward to your contributions, whenever it happens. Edit: OCD is a bitch tmg, also learning new stuff, when I make a map and then learn a bunch of new tricks and go back to it and start changing stuff Sometimes you just got to finish it and move on. Like I'm doing now with editor switch, because QuArk has some serious compile problems and can't do much of the awesome vertex editing Radiant can do.

Im still using radiant 1.4.7 so vertex editing is hard compared to edge manipulating.
I need to download a newer version which has improved vertex handling which would be great as my maps have alot of curved architecture.
Yes OCD is a pain in my neck. I agree 100% about getting better as you progress and then start changing everything!
I play through old maps a bit and am surprised as to much just how much I have improved since I started.
Labour of Love is all I can say.

I've been mapping with Trenchbroom v2.0. Big thanks to Kitsune again for sending it to me. Aside from a few headaches here and there, I love how intuitive it is to use.
I use QuArK from time to time to identify leaks, though.
I can absolutely relate to the OCD thing as well. Even though my first map is technically done I'm already thinking about changing some stuff about it.

I got heaps of pictures of my maps - it's sad. I spend so much time tweaking and tweaking and then almost lose interest in it, when all I need to do is get on with finishing the initial layout and mechanics...I can tweak later after this stuff is done. Need to do this more and actually finish the initial structure first.
One day when my maps near their completion I will post some up.

Is the first sewer picture from Oblivion? Because it looks incredibly familiar and I'm pretty sure it was from the beginning of that game, though I could be wrong. I'll have pictures from my unit soon as well - just have to make it somewhat presentable first.

Two things I hate in shooter games - sewers and mines. They are just fillers in my opinion, nothing more.
Both q2 and its expansions used them alot and it was so boring - especially in ground zero.
The strogg are a tech savvy advanced cyborg race and yet there are so many "mine" levels...I know I know they need their minerals, but seriously get to the point ok?
OK rant over lol.

I actually really like sewer and mine levels, but to each their own. I'm fed up with castle-themed or Gothic levels, Quake 1/3 style.

I don't know where they are from Marine, I usually just google for pictures to get some ideas like sewer + game or sci-fi facility. My god tmg, how can you not love the mine levels Those are my favorites, the "underground" feeling and the rock+metal environment rocked my boat back in the day, still does to some extent. Two sewer maps in my unit, but not like the q2 waste maps, more green/slimey like in the pictures. It was just so easy to work with that theme in QuArk, which is a pretty rough editor, so mostly 64 and 128 square walls. Far from the visual perfection of Mushashi's 'Slight Mechanical Destruction', I must switch to Radiant to even come anywhere near that kind of visual quality. QuArk will destroy your map past 1700-2000 brushes (compile issues). So my maps are pretty basic for the moment. Here are a few screens: Screen #1Screen #2Screen #3Screen #4Screen #5Screen #6Still working on the final map, might need some custom textures after all.

I guess I've played alot of games where you spend time in mines. Quake 2 and the Half-Life 2 series come to mind. I don't hate them, I just find that every game developer has a reason to include these levels in their games...
I can't really elaborate much more on this without sounding again like I am ranting, but I will say that it's time to add a bit more variety to the mix.

The screenshots are great Giftmacher - the map doesn't seem basic at all! Really liking the ruined base look of the level, great brush work and lighting there. Can't wait to play it!

Thank you Marine, hopefully soon - Not basic like that but I have to consider every area with QuArk, If I had 6000 brushes instead of 1700 I could do some more stuff. Not that its really needed for good gameplay, I feel staying close to the original levels is good enough to enjoy the game.
Edit: Some really nice textures in Reckoning and Ground Zero... I'm making a selection for the final map.
